For a quick diversion, when headed up 762 / Crabb River Road right before the George Ranch, take the road on the right just before the curve with the guardrail. It heads straight for the powerplant, named powerplant road, and has some really fun curves as you pass by. All roads lead to Thompson, TX which has absolutely nothing in it (except my little country retreat). If you follow the train tracks west you will meet up where 762 and 99 / Crabb River Road intersect.

On your way back from Thompson, you'll pass thru Boone, TX and in this town of 50 there is a cool new bar at the "Trading Post" with tons of outdoor seating, a relaxed country vibe, and yard games and outdoor pool table.

map it, it will make sense.

I have to say it, since you are new...

Never ride the 762 / 1462 area unless it is daylight. Deer are everywhere after the sun goes down. Rabbit and hogs too. If you do ride after dark, keep it speed limit with your high beams on and on high alert.

I'm no pansy, just seen so much wildlife in that area, it scares me. Also recently saw a passenger die on 762 after rider apparently swerved to miss something at night. She didn't die right away. It was so dark she was hit by the next car that came thru. Driver of car said he thought passenger was another hog...all black harley gear.

Try out cr42/sandy point rd, its just a cruising road and the roads not in the greatest shape. Also cow creek road.

There is usually deer crossing the road parallel with the RR tracks by the plant...the part where there's 2 bumps in the road. When you go out there you will know what I'm talking about. Go slow and be very cautious in the straights on CR42...deer always out there. I haven't ridden Crabb river Rd in a while since I moved...but rode it yesterday and had a blast
