Not so, sir, not true at all. Our very own Chris514Scott went down, and over the raised HOV and fell onto highway 59 into oncoming traffic and was run over. He lived.

Gear or no gear at all, I don't think it would matter due to the blunt force trauma.

There you go - riding like an , and surprise. You'd think by 49 he would have known better? I'm still curious as to whether or not he was wearing gear. My guess is no.

almost every motorcyclist fatality report says the exact same thing (riding at a high rate of speed) . Maybe he was? Though when I read this it basicly means he was going faster than the witnesses. 10 over? 20 over? double the limit? Who knows I always ride faster than traffic. Just cause a report says high rate of speed that dont hold much weight with me. it is very sad however we lost another rider today.

Im with you on this.

From the angle on the end of the truck (and the fact that he THE TRUCK UP), he was definitely riding at a much higher speed than the traffic around him. Squid salad now.

Could gear have saved him? Im not sure- but I like to think I would have made it to the ambulance in this situation- I have on a stryker or knox contour (back and chest) under my jacket at all times. Then again. I'm never going to swerve through traffic and kiss a truck in the like that

I think "changing lanes erratically" was the key part of the witness report. Of course speed is a key factor, but if you're going to go fast you better know where you're going

Most motorists think bikers ride like reckless ...

I specifically remember riding in a car with friends (who don't ride) and a bike passed us and was weaving through traffic... my friends thought he was "riding crazy", whereas I thought he looked smooth and controlled and was being relatively safe.

Yup. Non riders think we are nuts when sitting still at a light. Add 10 over the flow and we are just asking for it.
