Converting a big road bike to dual sport? Scrambler type bikes

I want a new project and this looks interesting... Any ideas where to start? i may end up scouring craigslist for a cheap old school cruiser to begin...

I dont get why anyone would buy a Thruxton, and then convert it into a bike that Triumph already offers from the factory?

Great idea! I can't wait to watch you build this unusual beast. Not too many people are willing or able to take a perfectly functional motorcycle and make it suck at both dirt and street applications while simultaneously thinking its going to be cool!

Are you wanting it just for the cool factor, or do you intend to use it off-road? If you're really planning to use it off-road, I'd start with a Versys and do a 19" front wheel conversion with knobbies front and rear. That way you get a long travel suspension and more ground clearance. This is not the converted Versys I was looking for, but it'll give you a general idea.

I will be using this offroad lightly but I'm mainly interested in the looks. i am basically taking the same thought process as many on this very board who lift there stock heavy 4x4 trucks only to make them ride like on the street and sink like a dense in the mud. they suck at both on road and offroad but at least they look as though they can perform two tasks. i want this to look like some military motorcycle creation. this will just be for a fun project.

Sounds like you're on the right track as far as build expectations, I say go for it bro! Btw, there is a cb750 in the classified for $900 right now. I follow a few "burly" cycle builders on instagram and online, I'll try to share some info with you as soon as we're discharged from this hospital and get home.

I would start with an old YX 490 frame, and go from there, drop in an R1, or R6 motor, smoking,
