http://mobile.chron.com/chron/db_/co...tguid=Z8ryXrcP

Magnolia motorcycle driver may face prison in death of passengerBy Robert Stanton05/13/2013 10:51 AMA Montgomery County grand jury has indicted a Magnolia man in connection with a fatal motorcycle crash in February that killed his passenger.Cory Ross Downing, 25, was indicted May 9 for Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury or Death, and Intoxicated Manslaughter, court records show. He was being held Monday at the Montgomery County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.Investigators said Downing was eastbound on Navajo Road in far southwest Montgomery County on Feb. 17 when he lost control of his 2009 Yamaha motorcycle, which left the road and hit a culvert. Both Downing and Kaitlyn Gunnels, his passenger, were ejected from the bike. She was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 5 p.m. crash.Texas Department of Public Safety troopers arrested Downing at a Houston-area apartment complex hours later, and he was booked into Montgomery County Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on May 22.If convicted of the charges, Downing faces a prison term of from two years to 10 years on each count.

I don't understand why people drink alcohol and then choose to ride a motorcycle.

This is a pretty common practice. Go to Yankees ..or any biker bar.. Or bike night where booze is served.

A little is OK.

I took my wife on a ride yesterday after drinking a couple beers. A couple coors light don't phase me at 220lbs.

Many have a hard time having just one or two (I'm one).

ANd when your really lit up, a ride sounds like a great idea.

It's so bad that Harley had a series of ads showing a picture of a Harley and the words, "This is not a barstool".
People screw up, it's not the passenger's fault.

He will pay a penalty that will last the rest of his life. Even after he completes his prison time, he will remember that he killed a girl. That will be in the back of his mind for the rest of his days.

Don't get mad at me, it's just the truth. A little alcohol will cause a little impairment.
A little impairment might be all it takes.

Had it been a guy as a passenger do you still think the charges would have been brought? NO gay jokes. Just asking.

Sure it is. Thats why there is a legal limit. 2 beers are not even noticeable to me. If I drink 1 an hours there sure as isn't any impairment.

Im sure. The family would push for it if the state didnt pick up charges. SOMEONE must be found guilty these days.

I have to say I agree. I ride to the bar for pint night every week. Never get a 2nd (only 170lb), and if I did- I certainly wouldnt ride home. Wouldn't have a passenger on the back either way.

Why is there a blood alcohol level limit of .08?

To argue that one should not go out to eat and have a couple beers or wine and ride home, well I guess thats your stance and I can respect that.

I believe small quantities moderation yada yada.

Now, I just took my daily xanax. 2mg and I have a 58 mile ride home.

Am I slightly impared, not really at all. But to some degree, yes I guess I am.

I have been taking xanax before my ride home for 4 or 5 years now.
