Well, I scratched my itch....new ZX7 for me.

After spending 800 miles in the saddle constantly asking myself...wtf am I riding this Harley for? I sold the Harley a couple weeks back. It wasn't exactly what I wanted when I purchased it, but it was 2 wheels, the wife said yes and that was that. Well, the wife and I are about to purchase a new home and the wife put the thought in my head to sell the bike, have a nicer financial cushion during our home transition and maybe put the $$$ into home upgrades. Well, that was all fine and dandy until I had $4,500 burning in my pocket. So the search began (without her knowledge of course), RC51? Kawasaki Z1000, maybe another ZX7 (I used to have a 94). The more and more I searched, the more I realized that another ZX7 was meant for me. Here's me atop the old zx7 which I sold to MudBug on here with 38k on the clock, I think he finally sold it just recently with 78k. Stellar bike, huh? (sorry for the watermark, I was a track noob)

MSR6 16

I searched all over the region using this CL search engine tempest tool that RacerX told me about. After scouring ads for a few weeks (btw, most zx7 links were deleted or broken which means they sold fast) I found a zx7 down in Laredo. 2000 model, only 8600 miles...can't be true. Then I found out it had a "brown title". My heart sank, but my spirit was quickly uplifted when several MH'ers informed me that this is pretty common. Even ran by the DMV to get a printout showing no outstanding liens were present nor any notations added to the title. Whew! Not often you find a bike with this sticker still in place. lol

If you've ever used CL in the past, you know that tire kickers are plentiful and BS'ers are everywhere. Driving to Laredo is a long haul and probably a couple hundo in my gas guzzling half ton roundtrip. After speaking with the seller several times, and due to time constraints on my end I asked if he could meet me in San Antonio. WTF am I thinking? Driving 3 hours in good faith this guy is gonna show up? Is the bike gonna be trashed? Are the pictures he's showing legit? I said the with it, if it isn't for me I'll hand the guy a c note and send him back on his way and count my losses. Bike turned out to be a little rougher than I hoped, but overall, it was satisfying my itch. After a quick blast up and down I-35 I was pretty much sold. Transmission felt good, carbs seemed ok, idle was normal....however, the suspension felt a little akward and I seemed like I was "over the top" in the saddle. Maybe it's my few months on the Harley, maybe someone has messed with suspension. Time will tell. Let's handover some cash and load her up.

loadedup zps874cc4b3

On my way back in to town I stopped off at WWH to see Mr. Bill D in the parts dept. Ordered a new chain and sprocket kit and picked up some new Dunlop Q2's for her (got a free t shirt too, but had to spend $400+ to get it, lol Thanks Bill!)....

This bike is screaming to be ridden, but not before I drain all the old fluids, tear her down a bit and throw some elbow grease at her. I see some new bar ends in my future, along with maybe an undertail kit for the rear and flush turn signals up front. No rush, but I can't wait. So glad to be back on two wheels...better yet, on a "classic" 2 wheel ride. Hope to meet some new faces and see some old ones at a local M&G's in the near future.

Thanks to Flyin' Duc and Patrick over at Motorcycles Unlimited for the advice regarding this particular bike. I hope to spread the love between our MH sponsors as I get this bike up to speed.

DBuck

Thanks guys. She is in pretty good condition considering her age. I'm fairly certain the seller neglected her pretty bad (purchase in 05 with 5600 miles and now only 8600 miles). Front tire is bald, rear tire was a Continental from like 2006 and a little surface rust on a few bolts from sitting outside a little I'm sure. The major blemish is a shoddy weld job on the lower right fairing. I'll keep my eyes on ebay for a replacement in the future.

more than I care to admit.

Naw, not really. $2,850 after giving the guy some money to fill his tank to get back to Laredo. Already put $400 more into her and probably another 2-300 between fluids, tire mounting, new grips, and other odds and ends as I tear her down. I see it this way. I plan on keeping this bike....for some time. What's a couple hundo over fair market value to get exactly what I want? Not enough to send me back to Houston with an empty truck bed. lol It does sound pretty sick. I was worried about it being D&D, but she has a nice purr to her.

Man, you're a funny dude. Luckily, my finances have improved over the past 7 years and no more being a cheap . Actually, if you speak to CarbonJames, he'd probably beg to differ.

I even sprung the extra $20 over the Bridgestone S21's. So not typical.

Still one of my all time favorites.....would love to get one as well. I almost bought one back before I got my GSXR, but it was beat and I passed. Enjoy it!
