Thumbs up 1-Mile racing coming to Houston!

For those interested or may know someone that is, please let them know...

Hennessey has been bought out of the Ellington Airfield events and the new owner will now host two 1-Mile and one 1/2-Mile event (still during Aero's & Auto's) a year.

For those that have raced at the Texas Mile, the Ellington track is much smoother and far superior to the Beeville/Goliad locations.

I'll post more info when it becomes available, first event should happen in October!

Hope to see some new and old faces out,

Josh

What runway for the 1-mile event? I was under the impression that the runway that was being allowed for use did not offer enough shut down area for the faster 1-mile cars.

Maybe I just have it confused with their top speed testing plans at the California airbase that they required for the top speed test to be able to shut down safely?

Their longest runway is 1.7 miles which is the main runway while the one being used for these events I thought was the 1.5 mile runway. What does the Texas mile run on?

This would be awesome. The only reason why I haven't been to the Texas Mile was due to the distance.

ellington has an 8000 foot runway and a 9000 foot runway, both of which have a 150 foot approach apron and a little extra room at the end before the taxiway. including the approach, it'd be 1.54 miles and 1.73 miles respectively

Currently they run on runway 4. With the added overruns there will be plenty of room for the fast stuff and the surface is far better for braking also. Should be no problems unless someone has a failure and even then the added room should be fine unless you are 260mph+.

It was announced at the drivers meeting and I know the new owner. As soon as the press release is done and all of the websites, info, etc.. is updated I'll let everyone know...

With Hennessey $300 for one day, the new owner said it should be closer to other 1-Mile events which is around $200-250 for two or three days...
