Only when traffic isnt moving which is just about every day on 610 on the way in and the way home. I prefer ridiny the white striped like to the right of the far left lane. Plenty of room most of the time.

I'm for it, I drive through traffic everyday on westheimer and can sit through several lights at any given time. I already do this when traffic and standing still. I've even thought about riding down the sidewalk

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/msb/msbfaqs.htm

The law doesn't specifically say one way or the other, but there are several statutes that may come to bear depending upon the circumstances, i.e. right of way, obligation to drive in a single lane, signal intention, passing with safety, etc. Motorcycles are considered equally as cars regarding traffic laws, so the single lane, signal intention and other statutes in the Transportation Code could come in to play.

The main statute that makes "lane splitting" illegal is Transportation Code Section 545.060, entitled "Driving on Roadway Laned for Traffic."

An operator on a roadway divided into two or more clearly marked lanes for traffic:
shall drive as nearly practical entirely within a single lane; and
may not move from the lane unless that movement can be made safely.

Did you guys catch the "as nearly practical" part? Define that in court when lane splitting has to been proven safer for motorcyclists in slow speed traffic.

Looks like squids need not apply. You have to be wearing a lid. I agree with that so that when the cage opens his door on you and you go flipping over it you have some protection.

Yeah, fine by me.

Maybe with an site like this with so many active members we could actually get a petition going.

I'm definitely for it. It's not legal here in Texas at the moment but I'm hoping some day it will be.

I split lanes when I really don't feel like sitting around. BUT I only do it at stop lights. I get to the front and hit the next light and do it again.

Im always wearing a helmet and gloves at least. Sometimes Ill ride with my pants on. But I move slowly and watch people's doors and mirrors to see where their eyes and actions are.

One time a lady opened her door on me and looked me right in the eye. She quickly shut her door as she saw me coming. I could of easily stopped if I needed to but was glad she shut the door. I was maybe 15 feet away crawling through a dead stop as usual.

I split on occasion, sometimes on HOV when bastards are going 50. I generaly try to avoid riding the zipper since all road dirt ends up in the slippy strip and on the zipper/lines. Unless I am mega late for a gig I'd rather be slightly late then have to deal with patching and the cost of replacing my tire. Is the 30 mins late equal or more in pay than the cost of the tire....

I go to the front of lights, but I try not to split on 45. I feel like the lanes are really small and there's barley enough room if any to split on the highway.
