Motorcyclist down on northbound US 59 HOV

Not sure if this is a repost, but earlier today a motorcyclist went down going 59 North on the HOV.

http://www.chron.com/news/houston-te...p?cmpid=hpfsln

How the did they get in the HOV the wrong way in the first place!?

Looks like he's going to live.

Making things worse, Metro police said Quentin was not wearing a helmet. Fortunately, he is now in fair condition at a local hospital. Nobody else was hurt.

That's some BS. Once you reach a certain age you should have to retake the driving test.

This was in the morning though, I assume that you weren't going home between 8-10 in the morning?

From the KHOU story:

Police said one driver swerved to avoid hitting Peterson, but Quentin could not react fast enough to miss him.
“Well it was kind of weird, you see a guy just kind of zooming along on the HOV, but everyone else in front of him was in the right side, so they just moved over. He went over, but the motorcyclist wasn’t able to see it in time,” Hermin Gin, who served to miss Peterson, said.

I guess I'm still trying to figure out how everyone else avoided the wrong-way driver by moving to the right side, but the motorcyclist "wasn't able to see it in time".

Maybe we don't have the whole story.

man, that would suck to be in the HOV and come up to the top of a little rise and BOOM there is a car coming straight at you!

idiots... About once a week there's old people holding me up in the HOV lane going about 45mph... at least going the correct direction. They think it's safer in the HOV lane and that they can go whatever speed they want. Can't even pass them that easily because they're all over the road.

I definitely agree that people should have to retake the driving test at certain time intervals.... maybe every 10 years until 60 years old, then every 5? I dunno... it will never happen though for various reasons.

There have been several people over the years that have done this. I wouldn't just blame it on age. Could be signage, who knows. Hope the rider heals up soon.
