It was a brand new 2010 CBR manufactured on 11/09. I bought it from Stubbs the end of January 2013. Came from the factory with BT-015 front and rear. Wore the rear out at 3,000 miles, so I figured they should be fairly soft. The front had slipped on me a few weeks earlier but I blamed it on cold tires and cold weather. Anyway, I had the bike leaned over pretty good, hit the apex on this turn that I've been on many times. Began to roll on the throttle and the front just let go and the bike laid down.

During the 3 years Stubbs had the bike it spent some time on display outdoors. Maybe exposure to sun and heat plus age hardened the tire.

Did it ever wiggle or do anything weird?

Years (many) ago I abused a Dunlop Sport Elite on my Seca 900 so bad it delaminated the belts.
Outward it looked fine but it did basically the same thing.
Pushed front, grabbed handful of gas.. back came around then high side.
Only thing I ever noticed prior was a bit of mild headshake around 65-80

I still think yours was caused by deer poo!!!

Bike acted like it was on a rail, nice and smooth. Went through the right hand sweeper just before the left hander just fine, but I did enter the left hander 5 mph faster than the right turn. Maybe the HESD hid any feedback

It's possible, depending on how firm it is set...

then again it was probably just the 4 year old front tire....

The HESD is electronic and not user adjustable, if at all. A new BT-016 would not have let me down

Isn't the shelf life of the sport tires we use < 3 years?

Either way, it sucks that you crashed. At least you are back at work and in the healing process.

Tire Service Life

Make sure tires continue to be regularly inspected after 5 years of service to determine if they can continue in service.
