I would advise finding an empty parking lot and work on emergency stops and starts, quick slow turns. Every day when I get on the bike I do a short emergency stop and try to slip the back tire, as well as a few "slaloms". Lets me know with the tires cold what my basic road conditions are like and makes sure my hand/eye/brain coordination is still the same. Like a roofer with a hammer, take a few slow practice swings and then from then on the high speed swings are right on without having to think about it. If you play guitar, same thing.
