Really?! Statistiscally, I am hundreds of times more likely to be waiting on pedestrians than cyclists. When I drive near entrances of stores, I always make it a point to yield to pedestrians. By the same token, when other motorists do the same for me, I always wave back to express my gratitude and hurry my way across their path, so as not to tie them up any more than necessary.

Well, over the years, I've learned that plenty of people don't give a flying hoot about that mutual courtesy. Just the other day, I stopped my car to let a woman walk across the driveway in front of Kroger. She sneered at me out of the corner of her eyes and proceeded to drag her feet across inch by inch - DIAGONALLY - right in front of me. In the time it took her to cross, our national debt must have quadrupled six times over. Then, I parked... and while escorting our 3 lil' ones across the same path into the store... you guessed it, the same woman flew by right in front of us in her POS 90's Eldorado.

Do I get all off? Nah... Why bother? There are always people in this world that are gonna be gut-full of hate and venom. As far as they are concerned, the world has on them all their lives, that the only satisfaction they can get is that momentary power-trip when they can make others wait on them. I have only pity, not hate.

Emphasis on roadway... I don't think he's talking about parking lots

Big difference between pedestrians walking in 10mph zones vs bicycles riding 10 mph in 60mph zones...

I ride my bicycle on the streets, I use my hands for signals, I stop at stop signs, I stop at red lights, etc. I enjoy riding the roads just as much as you all do your motorcycles. I have every right to cruise the same roads you do for enjoyment and there shouldn't be an issue. I try to ride on the weekends with anywhere from 8-15 people and we don't seem to have any issues with motorists.

Well now, the original question was on where *I* was driving, so I replied.

If I am going from point A to point B, does it really matter where and how and by what I was delayed?

Say I am riding from here to COTA to watch a race. Which of the following do you count?

1. Bunch of rubberneck on I-10 ogling an accident on the other side.
2. Stuck waiting for a training that didn't move for an hour.
3. Slow poke semi on a 2lane road
4. Granny with a left blinker on since 1989 on same road
5. Farm tractor, on same road
6. Bicycles on same road
7. Ride of the century type aholes stopping hwy
8. 3 mile long HD parade thumping along at 15 below SL.
9. At COTA parking lot, bunch of drunk jackasses blocking traffic, causing LEOs to swarm in to arrest, while I watch sitting in line waiting to get through.

Just curious..

While on a motorcycle, is it legal to pass a bicycle in the same lane in a no passing zone?

Do the bicycle race org's pay the local P.D's to direct traffic?

1) No. Bicycles are road legal vehicles, so the same rules apply to them. Though as long as you slow down a bit, and don't pass inches from my bar I wouldn't care at all.

2) Yes. Any formal ride or race police get paid. Most non-LEO event personel are volunteers.

It you off enough to remember the incident. I bet we aren't the only ones you shared this story with, the wife know too I'm sure.

I thought it was pretty clear we were talking about public roadways and not parking lots. Since we aren't at least the pedestrians aren't walking in traffic on a public roadway, and are smart enough to keep their activities confined to parking lots.

Actually, the wife was with me in the car. All we can do is shake our heads.

Sad part is... this was far from the only time we've seen this sort of stuff.

Cagers, Cyclists and Motorcyclists

I spend more time on my bicycle than on my motorcycle. I often ride road bicycle out at Chappell Hill training for races and like to ride my moto out there as well.

On bicycles we always try to be cognizant of situational awareness and not impede traffic. Also, when I am on my moto I always slow down for the cyclists when passing.

The balance is to have common courtesy for everyone on the road. Cagers, Cyclists and Motorcyclist all pay taxes and have the right to be on the road, but all need to act in a responsible way.

I was out there 2 weeks ago and didn't see any. Not sure what kinda events they have out there but my experience has always just been seeing a few here and there. A few months back they had some sort of race through 335 but it seemed like we came through at the right time and they were pretty much done...

Well said, I am only bothered by them riding 2+ to a lane. Glad my pipe is kinda loud, because when they hear me coming they tend to move closer to the edge of the road.
