From COTA to Accident

So being at the Circuit Of The Americas was GREAT...until the accident. I-10 on the curve passing Katy Mills Mall...person on my right doesn't see me and goes to switch lanes....sees me at the last second and gets back in their lane. By that time I get uber spooked, hit the brakes which straightend me out a bit and end up hitting his rear quarter panel. That locked my front wheel and I lost it and layed the bike down at 65-70 mph. Sliding on that cheese grater highway surface is aweful. Ended up in the ambulance to the hospital. Even with all the protective gear, I'm , scraped up, sprained, and can barely move. Honestly emts and hospital staff said I wouldn't be typing this if I was riding squid.

However behind me a 1/4 miles or so there were about 6 to 8 older bikers...when everyone slowed down they all slowed, however one of them layed their Harley down...no gear, no helmet. Lifeflight was called out. I hope to he ends up ok. EMTs were all over me so I couldn't check on him...I need to find out his condition.

I'm a sore mess but am on the way to shoot Buzzfest. If anyone is going, afterwards is the afterparty at the Marriot bar across the street...all the industry people and a lot of the bands hang there. Come by and say hi...I'll be the one limping around like I'm 90.

WEAR YOUR GEAR.

Not sure exactly how the bike is...I was the green kawi...looked like just sliding damage. It got towed to Gillman Subaru (know people there like Floyd) since I was taken to the hospital.

Where's the post?

Exactly why I would not even take my bike for a spin yesterday without Gear .. before I took the MSF I really did not look out for bikes .. not that I was or anything.. but it made me more aware of them on the road. Now that I will be one of the on the road I think all motorists should have something about motorcycle safety in their training when getting a license. I fondly remember the whole exercise where you simulate driving in Drivers Ed and the motorcycle pops up... I would bet we all hit it

Wearing gear is a good thing! Excellent example of why! Glad you are alive to tell your story. Good luck with your recovery.

Glad you're OK, and glad you were geared up. I had a pretty fast crash on the track back in 2000, and it ate threw a couple spots in my leathers. I was missing a little skin on my arm. While standing in the checkout line at the supermarket, dude sees my arm and asks me if I did it on a bike. I answer yes, and he proceeds to tell me that next time I'll learn to wear gear. I'm still not sure he believed me when I told him that I WAS wearing a suit at the time. Point being, once you see what can happen WITH protective equipment, you shudder every time you see someone hauling without any.

Hope you heal up fast.

We are at COTA and have seen HUNDREDS of bikes zip past our hotel and also 5-6 ambulances! I watched cars and 18wheelers literally be dicks to these on bikes! I must say all the sport bikers had helmets on...but what's with Harley riders NOT wearing helmets or just brain buckets?? Never understood that! Kuddos to the sportbikes!
