COTA tips

thought it'd be a good idea to have 1 thread about making life easier at COTA/ MOTO GP

I've seen

bring sealed water
bring enough cash $, atm fees are really high and CC transactions are really slow

well, I was hoping to go Saturday and spend the night, but can't find a single room for less than $500...all kinds of other events going on at the same time in Austin, including the MS 150. Why do they schedule these events at the same time???? Might be a bust for me....glad I have not purchased tickets yet...

I may have an open couch in my room, if it is ok with my buddy.

We would not charge much.

Go for the day and head back home afterwards? Hotels in San Marcos, or the North side of Austin near Round Rock or George Town I wouldn't think would be that highly priced. Everything in downtown will be though.

Both San Marcos and the North end of Austin provide easier access to the track using the 130 tollroad than driving from downtown in my opinion.

I've seen

bring sealed water
bring enough cash $, atm fees are really high and CC transactions are really slow

  1. Bring your own water
  2. The track is huge, be prepared to walk
  3. Don't sit in your stands the whole weekend. Walk back to Turn 7 and watch the testing from different viewpoints
  4. Most the walkways are crushed granite when not around the main stands and most of the grass is littered with bull rock so pay attention walking.
  5. Beer is about $8
  6. Food pricing isn't much better and is often worse. Salt Lick sausage wrap I think is about $13
  7. Food from the Austin food trailers is better and sometimes cheaper than the COTA concessions. Support the Mom and Pops and their food services.
  8. Turn 1 stands get a lot of wind (highest point on the track) plan to bring a jacket and maybe a beanie or hoodie for Friday morning. 40 degrees and windy is not fun there.
  9. Previous events the gate crew did not check bags very well. it was easy to sneak in snacks at the bottom of the bag or in your pockets. Might be different now due to Boston though.
  10. Almost all parking (except motorcycle parking) is in gravel lots. Don't plan to wash your car or truck the day before and have it stay clean.
  11. Don't stop on the pedestrian bridges across the track. (During F1 it took 30 minutes to cross the bridge) Walking the long way around the track may be faster depending on how many amateur photographers want to use the bridge.
  12. Zak Brown band concert is at the track on Thursday night. Arrive early and check out only the 2nd show at the new venue.
  13. If you sit on the front straight in the main grandstands use ear plugs. The sounds are awesome for a while, but then become deafening when them echoing off the stands the and paddock.
