Frank,

The few guys i regularly ride with...we all use Google Latitude, and have for years. It doesnt require additional Software...its built into Google Maps which comes STANDARD on ALL android phones. Most iPhone users use this as well, for the sake of simplicity, cost, support i would suggest this.

thanks,

I am testing both latitude and waze, both apps are free, so far i think waze has a lot more useful features than latitude but i am learning both as i go so i might find more features on both apps in the coming days that can help me choose one over the other.

Since you have used latitude for years, can you mention the features that you like best?

I should be there, after work I'll head that way.

Awesome video. I drove up there with Mark and two other friends. We towed our 3 bikes to Austin for SXSW. That's our Friend Nick the DJ. Mark was born on 3/14/1989, I was born on 3/20/1988. We partied it up that weekend in Austin for our birthday. We stayed with Nick since he was playing live for SXSW at this place called Plush.

Yes, I like that you can change your status with people. So for example, when we go on a ride, i can change our mode to share...but after the ride you prolly dont want me to know your going to a swingers club or something. Also its accurate in updating and you can also set up auto matic check points. So lets put the Exxon stations in there, when you arrive at that point it auto checks you in at that place. You can also create check points "Stars", so you could set up parking lots, trees..etc. on routes an see if that person hits that point as well.

I'm intrigued by this solution. I didn't realize that Google had released an iPhone version. The features you mentioned would work well for the SMR. Frank's suggestion of Waze also sounds promising.

both apps are very similar, the only difference is that Waze has a much better interface than latitude.

Yep, that's why I said "Everyone has to be on the same page and follow a set of rules"

Me n my friends use latitude mainly bc it was built in my android.
Im curious to what u like about waze, will dl n check it out.

Like ive mentioned, I always come with a friend n leave with a friend. Yall men should do it, too. Gives u peace of mind someone knows about ur whereabouts.
I wont be able to make this meet...have to report to trabajo. Hope u guys finalize on some good stuff! Btw, i admire ur efforts sunday_rider...both for safety precautions and ur organized rides.

Posting that you made it home safe is nice, but how is that going to help a rider that's bleeding out in a ditch? That rider needs to be found ASAP and not after the ride is over.

I understand that and it's a good thing, I usually post that I'm home safe too. Riders need to be accounted for before the ride ends, not after everyone is home.

Accounted for, of course, at the end of the ride.
But when they are home is when the ride is technically over. Thats why u close it out there by posting up ur home or telling ur friend u made it to ur destination.
