I know of a few Apps that are already out there.
www.locimobile.com/apps/ $3.99
www.google.com/latitude $free
Both can be used with both phone platforms.

google latitude looks pretty cool, almost like a simplified version of Waze, going to give it a try before Friday and discuss during the meet.

i am also going to try Waze and see which one is better.

I would imagine it is more of a hassle trying to use latitude than using regular paper and pencil.
Just installed Waze and i like the feature that lets you create a group of friends and track their location, you can also send your gps location in case you go down and want someone to find you, it is available for free for iphone, dont know if they have an android version, but so far i really like this app and could work for our group rides. You can also add checkpoint locations and see if everyone got there safe!

The problem with most/any of the GPS solutions is that it sucks up the battery life pretty quickly. I would not rely on technology as a primary solution. Good rules like you have laid out and are discussing are the key.

oh definitely, we do need additional rules but a little help from technology wont hurt maybe use it only when it is needed but for the most part our rules should keep us safe!

Look up "Find My Friends" it's made by apple. I've used it before.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/find...466122094?mt=8
You'd have to take a trial ride and see how well they actually work.
Yes battery life and technical issues will always be there but it's worth taking a look at for those interested. Will never be a substitute for a good riding buddy but these apps will also let your family track you online as your riding which could ease their mind atleast knowing your still moving. Ha!

I'll be there Friday either way. Sounds like there are some good options to make the big group rides fun and safe for all.
