Man, this feels like the tale of two rides...

one a small group who was being selfish and had their enjoyable ride (myself, Rod, and our two friends...we ran into you guys on Sunday)...

...and you guys working so hard to help other riders become better riders and suffer the worst possible scenario.

My heart goes out to you guys, Motohouston. Don't give up, I saw that some posts about restructuring for safety, glad to see that.

RIP Mark, condolences for his friends and family.

There should always be someone bringing up the rear so to speak on organized rides. not saying it would have saved him, but at least they would have known.
RIP rider
so sad, I hate these threads!

Apparently sweeper missed the wreck and no head count.

Id highly suggest each rider, know and watch for the rider ahead and behind you...

check after each corner...and if you think ones missing, immediately slow and flag for a stop.

this is a memorial thing not say the sweeper missed something. the ride has been very well organized. broke into 3 groups to make things smoother. it is unfortunate that this happened. I am deeply saddened. rip mark

RIP Mark I just met you on the last SMR and we talked about naked bikes (even though his wasnt exactly on purpose)

I propose a simple buddy system on the rides, just have everyone elect a partner that each stop they look for them and vice versa.

Then sweeper does head count. If there's an odd number of riders the odd man buddies with sweeper.

Introduce buddies to one another at beginning of ride and it'll also help you make new acquaintances as well.

Hi Myla, yes we saw your group pulled into that Exxon station around 10:30 or so.... Thank you very much for your understanding, we have tried to organize our rides the best we can and it is just unfair that someone would put the blame on the sweeper for not seeing the accident, we had a large group and not a single person saw what happened. I will definitely implement more rules to avoid future incidents like this from happening again. Lots of suggestions have been mentioned here by other members and i think i will call for a meeting to discuss each single suggestion mentioned and sea how feasible it would be to implement it on our future SMRs.

Just got some picture of the accident spot from Nick/easyriderzx10r..... has anyone in his family looked at Mark's bike yet for potential tire failure? looking at the travel path, Mark was maybe 95% out of the turn already, a tight left hander over the bridge, then you see that he suddenly steered to the right and went off road into the ditch then knocked the sign out from the ground and hit the barb wired fence, i also see gravel on the side of the road but there are no tire marks or any indication that he hit the brakes at all before going off road.

It is just odd that anyone would wreck exiting out of the corner.

, I hate seeing these young lives cut short! I know he died doing what he loved, but that's probably of little consequence to the ones he's left behind.

Rest in Peace, Mark and may your family and friends, forever, cherish your memory!

The phone I know was recovered. I'm not sure about his wallet. A member on here was his last call out, his father contacted them. I'm guessing he called him to invite him on the SMR. I wish I would have gone with him instead of going to the track, because I would have been on the lookout for him like I always do. He would tell me how much fun they were, and I even tried joining you guys one weekend but my battery was dead and I couldn't get the bike to start.

high weeds and a drop off didnt help but part of the problem i think is that when we look for someone that crashed in a turn we tend to look for them at the beginning or middle of the turn or even a bit past the apex (where we expect them to land) but in this case Mark was already out of the corner, where under normal conditions no one would wreck.
