STOLEN BIKE RETURNED TONIGHT!!! My Story

Okay so here's my story guys....Hope it gives some of you distraught theft victims some hope!

So I have been too distraught/depressed to share with my motohouston family that my 2011 Ninja 250r was stolen last Wed.
I was installing a new LED break light on it for several hours Tuesday night, probably till 11pm. I woke up around 5am to go to work, went outside....yep, gut wrenching-heart dropping-instant depression, my bike was gone.
I waited till the apartment complex office opened up, just to make sure that it was not towed for some silly reason before making a theft report.
Of course it was not towed and I dialed the police.
Soon as I made a full report with the officer my heart dropped again- I didn't have theft insurance and I realized I should have called an insurance, bought theft, waited two days and then filed stolen report... but it was too late. Since my bike is my only vehicle besides my girlfriends I had to go out and buy a beater truck.

A few days later I phoned the number on my theft report card and asked for any information on my stolen bike. I was told "No, we have nothing and WE will call YOU if we do find it, okay??" Wow....okay...

SO, I did the only thing left, I searched up and down Craigslist, eBay, cycle trader, EVERYWHERE. It has some very unique mods so I knew I could spot it despite a color change or whatever. , I even looked for it on the streets on the weekends. Nothing.

I chalked it up as a dumb loss, being that it wasn't chained up to anything only locked the handlebars. Guess I thought my cop neighbors cop car that always parks next to me would deter thief's. Nahhhppp...

After 1 week I gave up hope of finding it. I knew it had to be in a chop shop already stripped down on its way to Mexico or wherever the . Its kind of sad but I got really, really depressed I loved my baby.

Anyways, last night a random number calls me around 1am, and a lady from the police asks me if my bike is still missing. Next she tells me that a cop stopped someone and that it MIGHT be my bike and she will call me back.
I try not to get my hopes up just in-case its not mine, she calls me back finally after the longest wait of my life lol, and tells me that they did find my bike but that it had been wrecked. At this point Im really too happy to give a flying , as long as it still had the engine and tires.

I go to the tow lot at 3am and get the full story from the police. They stopped the dude in greens point (Of course...) for no license plate. He ran, ditched the bike in the grass and got away.

The bike is in pretty good condition id say. All the fairing screws missing from them pulling off looking for lo-jack Im guessing, all the key holes are bashed in (ignition, gas cap, back seat cover) wires to the ignition are cut, cops said that it was leaking oil all over the place, license plate missing and all the custom decals are gone. But they did add some new stickers of there own, lol. Got raped by the tow lot and paid 315 bucks to get it out. Threw it in my truck and the happiest mother you ever saw drove back home with his bike in the back of the truck.

SO I'm moving the bike to Katy tonight to stay in a garage while I fix it up and get theft insurance, but I'd have to say I'm the luckiest right now.
Guess I'm part of that, what....15% that gets their stolen bike recovered?

DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKES I DID, GET THEFT INSURANCE, CHAIN IT UP, WHATEVER YOU GOT TO DO!

I will post some pics of the damage in just a little bit. Hope anyone missing their bike gets as lucky as me!!

That would have been nice of you to let everyone with motorcycle insurance chip in and pay for your stolen bike

Glad you got your bike back. Lessons learned

im glad that you got your bike back in just about one piece i think this is a lesson learned to always lock it up.. im thinking of getting an alarm system not sure which one yet but if anyone has any ideas... but if they want to take your bike they'll find away....you can only do so much to stop them.

ive looked at Scorpio worth looking at it http://www.scorpioalarms.com/

Nice. After bout 10 years I saw mine on the street. It was a mh member on it. Insurance paid it off so they never told me it was found and resold.

Running on a 250......I'm guessing he is fast on his feet. Wish he wouldn't of not been able to run away, but not surprised police did not catch him.

#2 what the paying to get your STOLEN bike back from tow truck lot....

Lol I know it was long as . Bike means alot to me though. First bike payed full in cash, still learning from my mistakes, but just glad to have it back. I really never thought I was going to see it again.

As far as the insurance fraud, My brother is a PI for insurance fraud cases. It really wouldn't be hard. Unethical? Yes. Would I have done it? Most definitely.
Its not like that was my plan all along, I really just never thought about theft insurance. I have no clue why. Prolly cus I just payed a full year insurance when I first got the bike.

Can we get a mod to change the OP's signature? "Death before dishonor" isn't an appropriate signature for a guy who thinks committing insurance fraud to cover his stupidity is honorable. It's too bad you got your bike back, sounds like the old karma meter was just balancing itself out...

I thought the motorcycle community was all on the same issue over this one. Bike gets stolen = bad
Get bike back = good

If you really think I would have changed YOUR life by committing insurance fraud and collecting MAYBE 2,000

AS I SAID, I have theft now. Not that it matters.
IF it did effect you and raised your rate then I am so sorry,
get a new insurance because were obviously using the same one.
