First Trackday!

I just finished up my first trackday at Harris Hill Road, and I wish I had done it sooner! I was the slowest, and felt a little like a rolling chicane at times, but it was a blast.

Even after just shy of an hour actually on the track, I feel more confident with my bike. I also now know exactly where those 550 lbs I swore I couldn't feel on the street are.

It was pretty smooth, I believe it was resurfaced recently. There was one really bad patch that was brand new; it was loose and began and ended with a bump. I didn't have the testicular fortitude to explore lean angle over that point.

The track was very tight. I kept it in third, but next time I'm going to explore fourth.

I lost my edit. Now that I'm a member, I can bring a guest. The structure is a bit different from ridesmart. There are no groups, the track is open for a six hour block. You get as much time as you can stomach. Once you pass tech you have free reign, come and go as you please. Only a red flag stops the fun.

First Saturday, third Sunday, every Monday. Six hours...

I can't do this coming Monday, but I'm probably going to be out there next Sunday. The schedule is switched up this month for moto gp. I'm keeping my membership active all summer.

I'm going to take it slow, for the first time out I wanted to focus on getting a feel for the track. I'm going to start working on my lines next, and will add shift points later.

By a novice's reckoning, there really isn't much of a straight. There is a small one on the backside of the track, aside from that there were few opportunities (at least for me).

There is an incredible ascending "s" curve at the midpoint. You go from a tight right into a blind left, which I believe was increasing radius.

I went out again this past sunday and hit it up CW, last time was CCW.

I started working on my lines a bit too, and apparently going CW the line is a bit bumpier. Nothing that can't be ridden around though.

Next time I'll start throwing body position in. I got a boot slider down so it's probably time to start working on moving my body off the bike to get it a bit more upright in a turn.

Baby steps...
