The lights at 249 and Louetta work the same way, and I've seen others. I take Louetta east and turn north on the 249 feeder and it's tight. When I see the 249 northbound feeder traffic start to go, I know I'm getting the green about 15-20 seconds later. As I'm going under 249 the feeder traffic is still moving and by the time I almost get there the northbound stragglers are hauling to make the light. I can't believe they time the lights that way; someone pushing the light on the feeder and someone taking off fast from the cross-street light could easily meet up.

IMO - an intersection should never have two green lights at the same time, even if there are 100 feet inbetween the two lights. - as is the case at that intersection. It won't be the last fatality unless they change something.
clicking in to neutral? i leave it in gear.. that would be a very homosexual law..

im tlaking about watching for the other to turn yellow then read then count to 2 and dump the clutch and burn off.. or be rolling up to it and see the other turn yellow and not slowing down so that you are already going XX mph when it turns green and you are right at it...

Guys, don't sit at the light with you bike in neutral. What if you need to take off or get out of the way in a hurry?

Both kids and spouse.

I asked him once about the forum but he said he wasn't familiar with it. I had been trying to get him to come out to the track.

He probably did but he just tapes it to his helmet and its one of those all in one little cheap jobs. Wouldn't be surprised if they didn't notice it, it came off, or was destroyed.

rider may have had right away, that isn't going to mean you'll live.

this is why you have to eval. why and accident was caused and what you can learn from it, and implement what you've learned into your riding technique.

RIP.

Okay, that light is insanely long red. I always leave my bike in gear until I have at least two cars safely stopped behind me or at night, I just keep watching the rear until I see a car coming, then I click back into first and wait until they are fully stopped. I just don't have the lower-arm muscle to keep the clutch pulled for 2 min. Trust me, I am the worst about preaching watching rearview mirror and parking off center of the car in front to be able to get out of the way, so I am being very careful when I decide to click into neutral.

UPDATE!!!!

Hello everyone

I was contacted by the family of the the fatality to make a post to show support. The guy in the accident was actually a client of mine (i work for carmax) The wife gave me a call this morning and asked if there is anything i could do to get the news out. She asked if some people could show up to the services.

Please contact her at Gracie.alderete@shell.com for service infomation.
If anyone can also pm me any groups that might handle a memorial ride.

Flowers and cards can be sent to
8114 meagon place dr
houston,tx 77095

He had two children, and from what i can gather talking to him he rode like a normal person not taking any risk and always wearing his gear.

I saw a message regarding this accident on the "billboard" along 290/Jones Road (the one Perry Pools and Black Tie Limo Co. advertise) regarding info for services, etc. I think.

I have been looking for skid marks at that intersection but haven't been able to spot any yet. There is a bunch of glass on the right corner of southbound West Rd. and the westbound feeder, according to the posted pic, the bike was laying near there in the grass. Not sure why it travelled that far over if the bike was going northbound.

The lights are truly close. Just saw someone hitting their brakes again on Monday night.
There are two lights on northbound West Rd at that intersection. The 1. light at the intersection with the eastbound feeder road and the 2. light right before crossing westbound feeder road. The 1. light for the West Rd travellers turns green while the light for people travelling on the opposite westbound feeder is still green as well. A second later that light then turns yellow and then red.

By the time the person travelling on West Rd hits the 2. light, the feeder light is red for exactly half a second before the West Rd light turns green. I tried counting 'twenty-one' and it already switched before I could even say 'one'.

So both died, hm? Truly sad.

Eric was a close buddy of mine since back about High School days. The news of his accident was a dramatic shock to all his family and friends. I've sat at that same intersection more than a few times myself and will definitely never see it the same way again. Memorial Service is scheduled this Saturday at 4:00pm.
