I left to ride to work right around 7:20 am and didn't hear or see any ambulance, which is really strange. I live right by a firestation, so I assume it happened just after.

Very, very sad. Hopefully nobody we know. RIP.

On another note, at all these lights at 290, Jones, West and Eldridge, people are always running red lights, particularly when being on the feeder. If you come from underneath the overpass, you HAVE to slow down and make sure the traffic stopped or you will get t-boned. I see it every time I ride through there, I guess bikes do it too?! Be careful out there and +1 on slowing down in intersections and checking for cross-traffic.

Exclamation Sad

OK, my coworkers husband was directly behind the bikes. He used to ride, but gave it up. Here is what happend according to his account.

Car ran the red light, was not slowing down at all. He surmises the guy was trying to beat it based on the fact he was going pretty fast. THe biker that was killed gunned it from the light, his buddy lagged a bit, saving his life. There was an 18 wheeler blocking the view so even if the biker had looked he wouldn't have see the car running the light until it was too late.

Folks, as if it's not common sense, that's why you lag at lights and look both ways before taking off! I have let cars get and honk at me. F em! People notorisouly gun it when they see yellow and for this reason you lag. , let the cars around you go first, try to have a bumper, not that getting squished between 2 vehicles is any better but if the cars around you go maybe the dork thinking of trying to beat the light will see the cars and stop.

Ride safe people. We have to watch our own , cars won't!

RIP to our brother and wishing peace on his buddy and those who had to witness this. I hope they bust the red light runners hard, I don't care if he is hurt! :BangHead:

That is exactly what I see all the time at those lights. How often I wish those cops sitting on West Rd trying to get speeders in the 35mph zone would just sit by light up on 290 feeder for one day and cite everyone running a red light.

West Rd / 290 area is crazy. The park n ride is right there so there is a ton of traffic in the morning and afternoons. Someone was probably rushing to get to work.

on the HCSO site they have a press release with a complainant's name. Next to this name it says "(do not release name)"

would the complainant be the same as the decedent in this case? And if so why would they release the name and then put "do not release" next to it?

do not release name was probably supposed to be on the next line down.

Not much on kprc.com

just what we have already typed on here. 1 motorcycle rider killed (RIP)

1 person driving a car, trapped inside for 20 minutes, transported to a hospital by life flight, should be ok though.

i was going to get my bike at lunch today and come back to work too. hearing asbout these things kinda shakes me up even though i know i don't run redlights and i caution around intersections, and most importantly im not hauling . still just shakes me up though.

is it stupid to feel that way or should i just brush it off because i know i follow the rules and drive safe?

In general, the complainant is the person who is the person affected by the defendant's actions, in this case, the person who got killed.

That's what I assumed, but the HCSO site lists the complainant's name and then right next to it says "do not release name" -- pending notification of next of kin

I just thought that was odd

If they aren't blowing red lights on the 290 feeder, they are going straight out of the "turn only" lane. I can't count the times I had to stomp the brakes in my car or truck, coming under the freeway with a green light and someone on the feeder blows thru. Especially at rush hour.

Pay attention peeps, make like you are invisible and plan accordingly.

RIP to the fallen.

It is not stupid to feel this way. When I had just started out riding and I heard about an incident, it took me a couple of days before I could shake it off. Eventually, the desire to ride gets you over it. You hop back on and pray for the best and a safe return home. I am still worried every time I get on the bike. Just try to do all you can to be safe out there.
