Thanks buddy so as far as we know, Mark was last seen before the Exxon station on i10 which makes it impossible for the police to have found his body all the way in Brookshire

It is all so strange because the little farm roads are all 2 lane roads with ranches and houses on both sides of the road, if someone went down it would be very easy to spot

Yup That is The Weird Part About All Of This .. And Its Unlikely That He Kept Going To Ride RR Because If He Did Wreck Over There With All Those Police Everywhere And The Groups Going Thru RR At Slow Speeds Someone Would Have Definetly Seen Him And They Wouldve Found His Body Way Before 2pm

Sad to hear. Be safe out there guys. Get a sweeper and maybe head counts for rides this big. I have done Sunday rides before and they are great.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Frank,

Do you happen to remember by any chance the time when you put your kickstand down and checked with Paul ? At that very instant, the SV was literally in front of me. After that stop sign, we picked up a little speed and I passed him, that's the last time I saw him. This is hitting me hard, I think I was the last person that spoke with him at the gas station... I got off of my bike to tell him his passenger seat was loose (again, at this point I am still behind him) and he told me that it just appeared to be loose because it was actually connected to the latch at the front of the seat. After that, I got back on my bike and we headed out .... terribly sad... May he rest in peace.

sbiker21 did some investigative work on his way to work this morning... he talked to the PD to find out where it was.

They said "2/3 mile south of brookshire on 1489".
He followed the road and found the accident location... including orange markings and a bent pole with a blue paint on it.

Traveling from simonton, towards Brookshire....

You pass Hunt RD, make a sweeper to the right,
then Left long turn with the bridge in the middle of it,
slight right as you exit that turn.... that's where it happened. Maybe a little after... Sbiker/scott was being a little vague on the phone, and there is a another SLIGHT right after that.

If the guys following him were back a ways at all, they would've been in the blind turn over the bridge.

This means that the entire group 3 rode by, and Scott, RJ, and I all rode by a 2nd time while headed back to Monstermanus.

And yes, there were sweepers, but there was no head count, nor stop along the way to see if everyone was accounted for.

Thanks for the updates man, now we can finally pinpoint the exact location where it happened, yes it is a blind turn and i might add that there are a few bumps going over that bridge that can easily upset a bike's chasis and affect its handling.

A sweeper will not always see that someone went down ie if they are behind them in a blind turn. Once a bike has gone off, it is not always obvious due to plastic or other remnants you would expect. A head count is extremely important.

Group rides I attend always pause at intersections and wait to take a total head count. These are usually groups of ten or less. Larger rides make it even more important. When the count if off, you have to retrace your route slowly to look for a missing bike, you'd be surprised how easy it is to miss one that has gone off. Unfortunately, I know this from experience.

I usually have a list of riders in the second group and i do a mental head count at the gas stop, and that is why i ask anyone that join us to sign up so i have their names on the list.... on this ride i had a little argument with a new rider at the Exxon for maybe 10 mins, we were so busy aguing with each other that i forgot to do a head count this time, too bad things happen when you least expect it.....

As one of the sweepers this past Sunday, it makes me incredibly sad that I could have missed him. I'm constantly scanning up the road and on the sides as a sweeper to insure everything is going smoothly. You make an excellent point in keeping a headcount of the riders. This is something I'll be sure to do on future rides with groups.
