Add me to the Cruiser Brethren

Well... I made a kind of strange impulse decision and bought a 1983 GoldWing - GL1100 Interstate.

I can't imagine selling the Katana 1200, so it looks like I have two bikes for now. Silly me!

That's very cool!! Congrats.

Keep the Katana for local errands and use the Goldwing for commute and extended riding.

Decided the big fairing wasn't for me - so pulled all that stuff off, got some brackets and a headlight+signals, mirrors, etc...

Seems faster without all that... stuff.... on it.

Congrats! Can I ride the 250 with you? It's a slow bike on the straights. Keeps me legal.

Haha, that's kind of how I started out with my Venture, too. It's hard to beat a bike like this as a commuter.

nice! Do you have any plans to get rid of the GL, now that you've got the R3?

Yeah, no reason to keep it. I never have used all the luggage capacity. It just felt too small and too... flexy. I'm not sure exactly how to describe it. The R3 has a great size and road presence, and is gentle as a lamb until you ask it not to be.

Have him contact me. Worst case scenario I can give him some shopping tips for classic 'Wings.

Some glamor shots now that I've taken off the windshield. I know the appearance is polarizing, but I'm quite taken with the whole locomotive look to the engine.

I need to decide if I want to make it louder and possibly remap the ECU to let it develop full power in 1st and 2nd gear. 0-60 in 3.2 seconds is pretty fast as it is, so no hurry.

The Triumph R3 is a heavyweight muscle-touring bike. Think England’s cross between a V-Max and a Valkarie. It has a massive, 2300cc inline 3-clyinder engine producing 120 horsepower and over 130 foot-pounds of torque.

“We saw the big engine and said ‘This monster needs to wake up!’” stated Bob Carpenter in 2009.
...
Since then Carpenter tweaked the head-cam-piston package to reliably pump out over 240 horsepower. We have also added an entry-level package of just the head and cam work without the pistons that produces over 210 horsepower.

Yeah, I've seen that - and some folks that are strapping on a turbo. Pretty crazy stuff.

My brother has a VTX1800 with a fair number of performance modifications and a buddy of mine has a turbo street glide that is frighteningly fast. So, at some point I may follow their footsteps and see how much power I can coax out of the Triumph.

But for now - I'm working on getting it set up for some 1k mile treks in the very near future. Vroom Vroom!
