Oooooooh Snap, ok.. Im from NY and by the looks of this, it looks like they are in Harlem NY, which is basically uptown Manhattan..Now kids up there ride dirt bikes ALL THE TIME, now if they are stolen or not who knows, but NYPD typically DO NOT CHASE bikes up there because its too many people walking around, and what happened in this video, Thye do not want that to happen, liable for a law suit.

This is unusual, Kids up there ride 4 wheelers, dirt bikes, motorcycles all up & down the ave's, Cops dont do , they do stunts right in front of them, most of the cops say it, let'em kill themselves, they typically dont give a , they must have done something that them off. NY Cops are infamous for alot of up so they dont get alot of respect.

+1 solracer.

the article definitely said their was an issue with illegal dirt bikes and these two seemed up to something sinister...

being a tax payer and living legally, i'm happy the person we paid to keep us safe is keeping us safe. if you run from police for fun, you are stupid and probably do not make good judgement in life on other things (not a value to society). if you are running for another reason, you should be caught. the fatality is an unfortunate consequence of running from the law. in no way do i think the living rider should be allowed money from a lawsuit (comes from taxes the citizens put up)

be kind to officers, stop when they would like you to stop and answer questions when they ask. know you are paying their wage and they know this too. there should be mutual respect and they should be thought respect in their training course. (if not, it is your duty to make sure they are taught it during academy school.)

ps - its not like the guy was even on the bike when the officer put on the lights. he ran for the bike and jumped on the back. had plenty of time to not think about running. a premeditated action.

The official police account — which claims the cop car was not pursuing Herrera and Cuevas, even though its flashers were whirling — comes from the driver of the squad car, Officer Sabrina Alicea.

But that report leaves a lot out, said Cuevas’ lawyer Sanford Rubenstein.

“The question is, did the officer operating the police vehicle use it as a deadly weapon?” asked Rubenstein.

The NYPD Patrol Guide prohibits “ramming” in an attempt to stop a vehicle.

Well I'm from Texas and I encourage “ramming” in an attempt to stop a vehicle.

These guys were killed and paralyzed over what probably was about $150 in traffic fines. Maybe they were total shitbags but still c'mon. Not much different than if smokey out in Magnolia were to punt one of us into a pole for an expired tag? I still don't see how their actions warranted deadly conduct

1. They live in NYC
2. Passenger jumped on the bike in an attempt to flee
3. Either #1 or #2 is good enough for me

YES, IF YOU RUN INSTEAD OF JUST GETTING A $150 FINE, THE COPS SHOULD STOP YOU ANY WAY THEY CAN.
LESSON, JUST TAKE THE TICKET.... DONT RUN.

they did not get killed for $150 in fines...to get those, they would have had to have stopped and took the ticket...
the smokey in magnolia would not be punting you into a pole for an expired tag... he would be chasing you because you ran... and it would be quite logical to assume you were worth chasing because who is going to risk their life and the lives of others over a traffic ticket? IMO, if you run YOU are responsible for what ever happens and should be held accountable if ANYONE is injured in the chase. The chase is not the issue, the running is.

Man some of you guys are heartless. I don't think people should run from the cops but I don't think they should die over something so minor either. If they were bank robbers or murders then please by all means ram the out of them and try to take them down. But to do that to someone that was just joy riding hurting no one is kind of extreme.

Your life is in danger any time someone rides/drives an unregistered vehicle?

Not with the intent to kill. the cop could have taken a different approach to the bike and side swiped it or cut it off or something that would have ended the chase without killing someone.

How would you like it if your cruising along and you get mistaken for someone else who is running.

if your lucky,
You might live long enough pinned under a cop car to change your mind.

I'd like to know what these guys were doing. Every one of us that has ever ridden a dirt bike has probably ridden it one the road at some point. Do we deserve to be killed for it. NO

That's what I'm saying. Fuggin guy lies after someone gets killed. He's no better than a hit and run driver or some scumbag who lies to an insurance company. Wants to play big man and run someone over at least have the to fess up.
