I dont know exactly WHAT happened, but what it looked like is they were just riding around bs'ing around. Cop went to make a contact(policespeak) and then they tried to flee.

Yeah, that's just what we need. Cops killing people because "they ran". Reminds me of stories about cops shooting unarmed people because they were "in fear of their life".

The law in TX is fairly stiff as it is.

38.04. EVADING ARREST OR DETENTION. (a) A person
commits an offense if he intentionally flees from a person he knows
is a peace officer attempting lawfully to arrest or detain him.
(b) An offense under this section is a Class B misdemeanor,
except that the offense is:
(1) a state jail felony if the actor uses a vehicle
while the actor is in flight and the actor has not been previously
convicted under this section;
(2) a felony of the third degree if:
(A) the actor uses a vehicle while the actor is in
flight and the actor has been previously convicted under this
section;

Yeah but its only a felony IF they get caught.

I came to say the same thing... But at the same time, the officer should not have slammed into the dirt bike like that. Its not a car where smacking the car isnt really an issue.

So they ran because they probably were doing something wrong, but the cop overstepped and killed someone.

Im a sure the opinion here would change if the dirt bike was stolen or something.

false logic.
OR
anyone who buys a set of kitchen knives is gonna stab someone.
Just the same logic you applied
as to the cops let them off the hook and dont chase them. Ohh. They will see the error of their ways and not ride the motorbike unregistered again..?? Watteva.

every cop has to train in driving techniques/pursuit, so its not like the cop can pretend he had no intention of crunching that bike. Its about as reckless as whipping out his pistol and emptying a mag at them - did they do anything to warrant deadly force? There does not seem to be any indication from the news so far
