Very nice bike, congrats!!! Are you going to do anything with that fender?

I was looking at the FZ6 for a while until I found out Yammi classified it as a SS bike. I'm not about to pay for SS insuance on a bike with a "Tuned-Down" engine and marketed for beginners when Kawi has the Ninja 1000 as Sport.

Yammi.... Ain't nobody got time for that!

I was hoping to find a full crash cage from SI but the only option I've found for this bike is a tiny piece that protects the crank case.

I'm jacobm3 on fz1oa, I'll check out fz1-forum. Yeah, I'm thinking I won't sell this one anytime soon. It's cool coming home from a ride and feeling like I could put in another hour or two if I had the time.

Ares:
$4000.

I never got the urge to pickup an FZ6. I'm only paying $120 for liability on my FZ1 and it will be plenty fast enough for me for a while.

Had an 01 and its a badass bike.
You must get the bike jetted.
THere are two different popular options: Ivans which requires a little drilling (sounds bad but not really) and Dale Walker's set up which is jetting and ignition advancer.
I had the Walker set up and lemme tell you...it transforms the bike. Best money you will spend on the bike for sure. I went Dale Walker because i did not want to around drilling the carbs but I know that both Ivans and Walker's set ups yield identical performance.

HAve fun on the ride. I do miss mine...dont miss carbs though!

I thought you had to drill no matter what, to get to the adjustment screws. I've never worked on carbs before. I called around and it looks like having one of the local shops do it runs around $400 for a basic install and $600 for dyno tuning.

You do have to drill to get to the adjustment screw.
Morel like gently turn the small drill bit a few turns into the little brass plug to pop it out. Soft brass plug cdovers the adjustment screw. So that step is required no matter what on either set up. Its real easy though.

THe drilling i am referencing is drilling inside the carbs. Now I know many who have done the Ivans set up buuut I just envsioned up my carb bank so I went Dale Walkers set up. I also followed the instructions for carb removal on the "Pats FZ1 site" and did the work myself. Pain in the by definitely doable.

It doesn't matter what category the mfr puts the bikes under, it's what the insurance company classifies them that determines the premium. Progressive's rates for the Ninja 1000 is actually about the same as most litre sportbikes, whereas the FZ1 is real cheap like a sport touring bike. To me, they are both in the same super-sport-touring category, but sometimes different insurance companies have their own ideas.

Oh...missed something. Dont waste $$$ on Dyno tuning. Get one of those set ups...install them per spec and you will get the HP that the tuners (Ivan and Walker) state. You will be +/- a HP or two and that is bike differences.
Cant remeber the HP gains now because its been years but save trhe $$$ for more custom mods.

Leaving HP on the table...hellz no!
Plus on this bike, there is a notorious soft spot in the factory jetting somewhere around 3k and it will annoy the out of you.
After jetting....soft spot gone and more HP in the sweet spot (top 1/3 of RPM).

THat bike is a joy to run near redline....it cooks.
