I had an 02... plenty of torque and handled really well... I had to change the bar set up to something more comfortable... but not a good wheelie bike although thats what it really wants to do...

but $3k is pretty steep for that bike in my opinion... probably try to get it closer to $2k or less

Yep. High. I paid $2300 for mine. It's an '03 and had 13k miles when I bought it. You can find a better deal or get him to come down.

I DO love my bike, though.

I sold mine 2 years ago for $2100. It was pretty much mint, with 13k miles. I wouldn't pay over 2000 for one.

I paid 2200 for my liter standard bike with the same miles.

Although sv650's are popular, the popularity shouldnt be 3k's worth.

Agreed, price is high. Plenty of stories about the front cylinder getting oil starved and causing damage if you ride LONG wheelies. A few have also had issues with water shorting out the front plug connection in a monsoon, but easily remedied.

LOTS of good info in the faq on svrider for various issues and ideas, as well as great forums.

Good bikes but I am going to be looking for that kind of money for an '01 with fresh paint and a GSXR front end swap when I get around to selling it. That bike, $2k ish.

First gen SVs are good, but you can buy a 03+ 2nd Gen for just a little more money. Parts and accessories will be easier to get. A lot of them are shared with the SV1K too. Plus the EFI is much easier to live with.
