No, they're not a necessity, but they are great for everything from running the back roads to merging into traffic on the freeway.
I think they are a complete waste in a street application but after using one on the rsv4 it sure is nice to have. If you can afford it, why not

I agree. Money is much better spent on tinted windscreens, carbon fiber huggers and pazzo levers.

Seriously though... Best mod I have ever done. I can't hardly ride without them. Nothing like being cranked over at wot and grabbing a gear!

I will have to put one on mine now.
I don't use the clutch after 1st gear, but a qs would make changing gears smoother hence not upsetting the bike as much as without one.

You dont have to be at WOT to use it. Mine is set at a min of 4k rpm to function. It makes about .25 sec of a difference for me in the 1/4 mile. I'm just spoiled from having one on my last 2 bikes. I have a problem right now and mine isnt working. Its very noticeable and I feel like its my eyes out since its not working. Its just nice to not need to blip the throttle to shift and to be able to shift while at WOT.

I see no point in having one for the street. not even the people at PP1 are going to know what a QS is, so it doesn't score you poser points.

for those of you with QS's on the street, are you running standard or GP shift patterns?

I love the QS on mine, but under normal riding conditions i still use the clutch going from first to second.

Patrick just installed a QS on my ZX-12R. It is much better than manual clutchless upshifting. I also have a QS on my Duc. I have used QS on bikes with standard and GP shifting. Once you get used to it, it is hard to ride a bike without one. BTW, all of my riding is on the street.

Once you try you will be hooked. Should be standard on all modern sportbikes except Bevos.
