Extended warranties

Getting a bike soon and need to understand if a cost of 1000.00 is worth it for an extended warranty.
I think the new bikes are fairly dependable so what's your thoughts. Most likely bike will be a honda or suzuki
Thanks in advance

I had warranty on a 2006 zx6r... Was well worth it, that bike dropped a valve twice... Warranty covered it both times.

What IS worth the money is a service plan IF you put at least 6-8000 miles a year on the bike. When I got my VFR800, I paid about $1200 for a plan that covered all scheduled maintenance for the first 3 years. I put enough miles on mine that when I added it up, it would have cost me more than double the original $1200 to pay for each service individually. The $700-800 valve check at 16,000 miles was a big winner.

However, I DID also get a 5-year warranty and it just expired a few months ago, unused.

The dealer mentioned the warranty and the price. Now with some of the posts I need to do a bit more research before making a decision.
Thanks.

Ive never used a warranty either. Also, most times they try to get out of covering stuff under it as well, or theres a deductible...etc.

I say forget about it.

Depends somewhat on the bike and how much you pay for the extended warranty. My C14 is full of eletrical/electronic gadgetry (motorized windscreen, TPMS, KiPASS, ABS, etc.) so I feel a bit better with an extended warranty. I bought the Kawasaki GTPP, which extends the actual factory warranty for 3-year. I've already gotten a rear wheel TPMS sensor replaced under warranty, so it has proven to be well worth the while. Prices vary a lot, so do shop around. I bought mine from an out-of-state dealer for $350 and got the paperwork from Kawasaki by mail.

I would not bother with the aftermarket third-party extended warranties, which are never as good as the factory plan.

Depends on the ride. Lots of electronics? Get it. Minimal electronics on a proven design? Waste of cash.

if you are going to buy a warranty, absolutely go with a manufacturers warranty. also when buying a used bike from a dealership, a warranty is not always a waste. i've seen quite a few people wish they had purchased a warranty when they hadn't.

BUT if you are one to play the numbers, most people wont use a warranty. in my eyes it's just an extra bit of insurance. it's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

I would not do it unless you plan to go to the stealership for service & repairs.

if warranty work needs to be done, you wont pay a dime. if you are the type that doesn't want to or doesn't know how to work on your bike, then yes our mechanics need to get paid for the work they do.

1000 is high. I was able to get a five year with tires and wheel added on for $600. That's the bike warranty and tire and rim for 5 years. It's really 4 the first year is covered by the bike maker.

Got an extended warranty on a used XLH883 I bought from MancusoHD years ago. Well worth it, as the bike developed a leaking base gasket, a cracked front cylinder head, and the stator burned up, all replaced under warranty. Then again, it wasn't my first Sportster so I knew what I was facing and was prepared for the headaches.

I just bought my bike a few days ago and I was about to spend $660 on a two year warranty. Even though I know warranty's are rip offs I was buying the bike used and just wanted to be safe, because I know my luck. If I don't buy it bike bound to break somehow. Luckily the bike still had 18 months of warranty left so I did not have to spend the extra money.
