UNFORTUNATELY, OUR FREEWAYS HERE IN TEXAS ARE TOO NARROW[RELATIVE TO THOSE IN CALIFORNIA].THEREFORE, LANE SPLITTING CAN PROVE QUITE DANGEROUS FOR RIDERS. PERHAPS THAT'S WHY THE TX LEGISLATURE DIDN'T RATIFY THE BILL THAT WOULD LEGALIZE LANE SPLITTING.

I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE LANE SPLITING DEALING WITH SPEEDS SIMILARS TO THOSE PORTRAYED IN THE VIDEO. I SPLIT SOMETIMES ON 59 WITH TRAFIC HARDLY MOVING, BUT I CAN ONLY AT 5-10 MPH OVER THE AVERAGE TRAFIC FLOW AT THAT PARTICULAR TIME. NOW ON I-10[FROM 610 TO GESSNER] SUCH TASK IS CONSIDERABLY MORE DIFFICULT GIVEN THE NARROWNESS OF THE LANES AND DRIVERS CONSTANTLY CHANGING LANES.

it's similar to the helmet law in that you have to have the same qualifications as the "no helmet law"to lane split legally.

i'd have no prob. splitting in bumper to bumper traffic. it's not for everybody.
Good report. I hope our State Reps see it.

I lane split all the time on all the major freeways here, with traffic moving anywhere up to almost 20 mph and I've never had any problem with road width. I used to fold my mirrors in first because I thought about width possibly being an issue, but I don't do that anymore because I've never had any problem.

The only problem I've ever had is with cagers who take it upon themselves to forcefully enforce the law.
