In the MSF course you take a knowledge test (written, multiple choice) and a range evaluation (riding). Go read the DPS handbook and revisit your rider handbook.

MSF course qualified as the road course in texas for me. If you dont take that then yes the road course is required after the test wherever you're takin it.

This... but I could see how if you were to squeak by on the MSF test, you might fail the DPS test.

Looking through the BRC manual that Awesome gave me was plenty to pass the DPS test though

Then again, I got a gremlin bell for my test scores

At Awesome they told us that the DPS written test was... "QUIRKY". Indeed. Answer choices that made no sense. GRAMMAR ERRORS. Flat wrong information. Only 20 items instead of the 100 or so on the msf test which was an excellent test.

Hint: You have a "skip" button on the screen (it's computerized), that piles up the ignorant questions at the end of the test. If you get enough items right before you get back to them... WIN. You never have to see them again. I was pretty steamed when I flunked the first time, sentencing me to another trip to that paradise. You get 3 tries for your $18 bucks or whatever. I asked the lady at the register what if I flunk 3 times? "You just pay $18 more and go again".

If you flunk take advantage of the review to see what items you missed and the answers. Write that s*** down. You will prob see those items again. Good luck. A certain amount is required.
