New Motorcycle Sales

Just spotted this in the news section:

http://www.motohouston.com/forums/sh...18#post3500118

I wonder how the US is doing. My impression from talking to dealer reps is that it has picked up a bit, but I don't have any hard facts or numbers. Anybody with first hand knowledge?

They need to bring some of the sexxxy slow selling Euro model bikes to America. Sell off some inventory and give us a shot at the really cool naked bikes.

Honestly on more than one occasion I have been told by dealers that they won't. Squids love fairings they can wreck.

From talking to dealers regularly, I got an impression that the sales in US are also dismal. There is lot of old inventory and the manufacturers or dealers are offering so many incentives to clear up stuff. I hope the market rebounds soon and the dealers can make money to stay around..

Although it could be brand dependent. Some brands are doing better compared to others.

I have read in more than one article that the higher end of the market is doing fine. The clientele that buy Ducati, BMWs, etc. and those who tend to be looking at big cruisers, sport tourers, and some liter bikes tend to have better credit or pay cash, so they are less likely to be affected by the credit crunch. Those shopping for 600 supersports OTOH are traditionally younger with lesser credit. This may be why mfrs are scrambling to come up with cheaper alternatives to the $12k 600cc SS.

I totally agree with you on the last point. It is very easy to afford 'toys' here in the US compared to most other parts of the world.. I am glad to be here and enjoy these while I am here
