2/17 ride no organization just ride.

I will likely be riding on the West side this afternoon. Brookshire area...

My rules are usually don't be a dumbass, and don't ride beyond your limits...easy enough right?

It would be like traveling back in time. When I started riding, it was a free for all ride. Then we noticed people kept crashing on every ride, because there were no rules and origination.. Lost a few close friends.. Seen a few hurt so bad, they wish they were dead.
Then a few friends that survived that era, made a few basic rules to lower the crash rate... It worked...
Since then, I have not had anyone die or seriously hurt on my ride.

My free for all .. No rules ride .. Would not look like a group ride. It would look like a solo ride. Lol

There is nothing wrong with the no rules concept if a few conditions are met:

1. you are comfortable and familiar with all the riders in the group.
2. all riders have a similar pace / level of experience.
3. leave your egos behind and just have fun.
4. keep the group small.

We have been doing the no rules for a while, thats pretty much what our First group is about, but to be in the first group we do have a strong set of rules for obvious reasons. If i had time today i would love to come out on this ride, the no rules does not concern me that much in a smaller group set up because i usually stay behind watching people i havent ridden with and once we get to the fun roads then i break away and i am pretty much riding by myself from that point on, so in my opinion this ride can be done safely.....BUT NOT RECOMMENDED FOR A LARGER GROUP.

Technically time and place would be a rule. Just going to have to guess.

As always Frank your explanation is right on point. Always enjoy your perspective. Knowing who your riding with in my opinion is the most important.. For me anyways. However ill follow any one on a ride if I get to sweep and follow from behind. Just natural for me to hang back at first unless i know the way.

Well honestly.. I'm usually not one to jump in on someone's thread like this, but he called my friends rides wack.. I just don't want some of my other friends riding with someone who had a blatant disregard for what it is we are trying to do.

I guess I could have just stayed out of this thread.. However I and many of the organizers here would still not mind having the op on the ride (your welcome still), but we just like having some sort of direction on a ride to avoid mishaps that usually occur when the group is non organized.

Post us a ride someday and I bet you'll get some folks whomlike the ride "non organized"... We're not trying to scare you.. Just messing around..

I agree with Ryan!

People need to understand that we have rules for their own safety, we make an effort to make it safer for the noobs, not really for us! I also do the Big Boys Sunday Ride which by nature have no rules at all because evryone knows what they are doing! Lots of noob dont even realize that the rules were created for them so they have some form of controlled structure on a big group ride where you will find expert racers, noob riders and everything in between and trust me it is always the noobs that usually goes down, in 6 years of doibg SMRs not one from the first group have gone done!

rules or no rules, the ultimate goal for all the events and rides organizers are to see all the riders on the ride goes home safely. in order to accomplish that the easiest way is to set up some ground rules for some riders.

we all like to test our own limits, but it is best to do it on a safe environment. i do understand not a lot of people that want to do track days nor can afford track days and i am not saying the track days is the only way to go. but it is a safer way to do it.
