PC V ?

so a guy wants to loan out his PC-V, so you can get a tune done, then return the box.

i thought the new map stayed w/ the box? vs on the factory ECU

so if you took the box off, it would return to OE settings.

I think it would stay on the box, not on the ECU.

Sounds like someone doesn't have any idea how a Power commander works.
As previously stated, the map is written to the
PC, not the ECU.

They probably assumed it was like flashing the ECU in a car.

yeah i doubt motorcycle CPU's are advanced enough to have EEPROM's (yet) although it would be a nice feature in the future.

however on these advanced motorbikes like the bmw and aprilias and what not they do have a "SEMI" programmable fuel maps with thier change-able "modes" which has to work on a Random access memory device containing the selected maps

You can buy a flash tuner for a r6 or r1 and program your stock ECU. Change fuel maps, engine braking, QS function gear ratio...basically the stock ECU has the same functionality as the Factory one. You just need the interface.

It works for bikes. It just doesn't happen with a PC. Like has already been said, you need to flash the ECU.

How many times can you flash the same ecu?

PC V ?

Auto tune is nice to have if you are constantly making changes.

he's going to try and do a loaner type thing, also good to get 1 tune and leave it alone.

That's what I was gonna suggest... I figured there was a mix up somewhere.

It would be nice to use the auto-tune for a couple weeks to get the map set to your riding/exhaust/intake/etc, then move on.

If you plan for 1 tune and "leave it alone" you put it on a dyno
