Question EZ tag..details please?

MH,

Ok, it is time for me to finally get an EZ tag for the Guzzi. Please let me know details: do I have to mount it on a windshield, or can I keep it in an inner pocket, do you have suggestions on a plastic case, etc?

Thanks in advance,

Lucydad

The one for motorcycles is the plastic case version. I have mine in the tail of my bike. Reads just fine.

Tail or saddlebags. You should get the brick.

You're going to get the fat plastic kind, not the thin sticker.
Do not stick it ON the bike. Put it in the trunk (may not read though), in your jacket pocket or a tank bag. If you're gonna go through the gates vs the drive through lanes, test a couple of spots to see which one is best for the gates. Going through the lanes is less of a problem because if it doesn't read the tag, they'll just use your license plate info from the automated camera pics they take.

I know you're in SL, but if you're ever gonna ride on the Katy Tollway, be aware, those are different rules for different lanes at different times of the day.

I must be real dense or lead poisoned to the point of blocking EMR, cus any pocket behind me doesn't work. I have to have it in my fron shirt pocket, and even then I have to sit up and stick my chest out for the gate sensor to read. Its good and bad.

Not sure about a good place to mount it, but you can order one over the phone or go to the store in person. Like others mentioned, you will get the brick. It's not the sticker like one that goes on your car windshield. These are the old EZ tags they had years ago. They give you these due to climate conditions.

When I picked mine up from the EZ tag store at Westpark and Diary Ashford, I was able to test it out with it mounted in my trunk and it worked fine. In their parking lot, there is a lane you can ride thru to test out the EZ Tag. A light comes on or something like that, to let you know it detects your EZ tag.

And don't leave it in a jacket pocket, in the back seat of your wife's car. It reads just fine from there. Multiple times.

Jacket pocket doesn't work for me. I suspect the brick has be to oriented away from vertical in order to communicate w. the sensors.

Note that the "bricks" used to go on the inside of windshields. I have mine stuck to the inside of my saddelbag so that it points the same direction and angle as if it was on a windshield. I tried several directions, and this has the most consistent readings for me.

The bricks that are assigned to motorcycles aren't the same ones that were used on vehicles, they're a lot thicker than the ones I used on my cars. I don't know if the that makes a difference.

I have mine in my jacket pocket and it works just fine.

mine hasn't read in months, they end up just putting it in manually a day or so behind. Had it mounted in the tail, have pulled it out and tried jacket pocket, still no good.
But they're NOT getting another $15 off me.

if you having problems with it reading, take it to one of the 'stores' and have it swapped out... there should NOT be a charge to do so.
