wo parents face child abuse charges after allegedly severely burning their 2-year-old daughter last December, court records show.

Ashley Arlene Campos, 22, and David Allen Sanchez, 25, face charges of injury to a child by omission and are being held Monday in the Harris County Jail on $30,000 bond, court records show.

Investigators, who arrived at the family's northwest Harris County home, found the baby had been burned on the left side of her body from the buttocks to her foot, records show.

The toddler was air lifted to Shriners Hospitals for Children - Galveston, where doctors determined she sustained third-degree burns over 9 percent of her body. The child had to undergo skin grafts on the left side of her body due to the severity of the burns, court records show.

While en route to the hospital, the child told a flight nurse on three separate occasions, "My daddy did it because I was bad," the affividat states.

The parents told investigators that they gave the child a bath on Dec. 28, 2011, but she did not complain about the heat of the water, records show. The parents said they left her in the water to play and periodically checked on her for about 30 minutes.

When she got out, the parents noticed the left side of her body was red, the complaint states.

Sanchez also noticed some loose skin on the girl's leg, he told investigators. He said he went to Walgreen's and bought hydrogen peroxide and gauze, which he applied to his daughter's burns.

Campos' parents arrived at the home the next day and called 911 when they saw the child's burns, investigators said.

It means even if she didn't cause the burns, she didn't do about it. The baby's grandparents called 911 the next day when they saw the child

I think the kid may be better for it. A 3 year old kid losing a mother like that may wind up with a new mother that will actually love the kid.
