Neither are the lasers he is talking about, I looked them up and it looks like the lasers they use in night clubs. My point is valid, though the beam width is greater than a traditional laser pointer you would still have to turn your head around to spot the target, take one hand off the bars, and manage to shine the beam into the eye of the driver you want to blind. Hope nobody hits the brakes in front of you while you are doing this.

BTW, I work with lasers. Mores specifically, classIV, 8kW co2 and 5kw diode. Mount that to your bike.

You might know more about lasers than I do, it's a hobby for me but I'm really knowledgeable when it comes to my hobbies.

The first 445nm blue laser diodes that I know of came from blu-ray drives for pc's and ps3's.

Now laser diodes are harvested from M140 Casio laser projectors. They are reaching 1.8-2.1 watts of power easy. Casio recently released new 9mm diodes that are currently the strongest hand held lasers that I know of and are reaching power output of almost 3 watts.

To put that into perspective a 1 watt laser can pop baloons, burn eletrical tape, burn holes in cd cases, and light up your favorite "water pipe".

It is illegal to sell these high power lasers as "laser pointers", the legal limit for a laser pointer is 5 miliwatts or .05 watt, usually what you get out of the box is between .04-.049mw. However if the laser is not advertised as a "laser pointer" there seems to be a grey area where no one is sure of the legality.

High power lasers have yet to see much if any regulation. But its only a matter of time til someone does something really stupid with one, then the prices will sky rocket and lasers will become scarce again.

I believe a handheld infrared laser might be stronger and give the better effects, but I use the visibility of the beam to help aim it. With IR you cant tell if its reflecting into your own eyes or where the beam is hitting at all.

I would "lase" from behind my intended target and not in front. If I wanted to lase targets behind me I would probably rig a rear view camera with cross hairs and fix the laser to the tail of my bike.

Lol at the rear mounted camera with crosshairs! James bond chit right there!

I don't know much about lower power lasers, but when it comes to the ones I work with, the diode lasers (though only 5kw) have a higher absorbtion rate than that of the raw power of the Co2 (8kw). One time the Co2 went rouge when an engineer and tech guy where working on it without one of the mirrors. The operator was in the beam path and the engineer dove through the beam (invisible) by accident to get the operater out of the way (as fast as it took him to fall, the beam opened his head up). The beam cut through the wall and a/c unit 30' away.

I think a harley trike pulling a trailer could carry one of those c02 lasers, just rig up the camera with cross hairs and watch drivers faces melt.
