LOOKING TO GET A GOPRO OR SOMETHING SIMILAR. ARE THERE ANY OTHER GOOD CHOICES OUT THERE OTHER THAN GOPRO OR IS THAT THE ONLY WAY TO GO?

Other choices but gp is the most popular for a reason.

Yeah, I looked into the Sony action cam which was a pretty good alternative.. but I ended up going w/ the GoPro 3 for a few reasons. Mounts, build quality and form factor, low light performance, etc.

The only thing that held me back on the GoPro 3 was price, but Wild West Honda offered a pretty good MH discount, so I was sold. They had a few left when I went this weekend, and I know they're ordering more.

I like the shape of my contour better. That & it doesn't need a special case to be water proof.

Which one did you go with? I'm looking into getting one as well. I don't know if $100 is worth the diff. b/w the white/silver. Have you shot any vids yet?

I don't like the go pro mounts. And the camera is like a brick. Square and bulky. Quality of video is good though. I use a replay XD 1080 p and a Sony AS10. I like the quality ... Although the video quality drops a lot when iploaded to you tube. Someone needs to show me a way to upload in HD

I got the black edition. There are comparison vids on youtube that may help you decide, depending on how you're going to use it and what's important to you. Either way, the improved audio and built-in wifi on all 3 editions are going to be a step up from gopro 2.

I've shot a few vids of me driving at night just to test it, and I was pretty happy with the video and audio. Haven't had a chance to really use it the way I want yet though.

Contour. I have a contourgps, records your speed and location with the video. Full 1080P. There is a little more shake than a gopro because there is less fisheye in the lens, but not too bad. A lot less wind resistance on a helmet.

I do like the 120 and 240 FPS functions on the gopro3 black.

Re: ACTION VIDEO CAMS

I made this same exact thread earlier today. I myself am leaning more towards the Sony Action Cam. I saw a comparison video of the Sony with the image stabilizer vs the gopro hero 3 and it made the gopro look fairly shaky.

Another option is the Drift HD Ghost.

I've seen a lot of your videos, and the quality looks good. Which one do you use?

If its the GoPro3, which one of the three (white, silver or black)?

I've got the Midland XTC-205, which is their mid-range model, and I'm happy with it. It was around $90 when I bought it (I think its gone up a few bucks since I got mine, though), came with the M/C helmet mount (which I've had on at speeds of 150+, and never had any problems with it), plus a few that I have no use for. It shoots in SD and 720p HD (I have a 16 GB card in mine, which holds 5.5 hrs in SD, 3.5 in HD), and the battery life is exceptional. It also has a slim profile, which is a plus, cuz it doesn't have the "sail effect".

The SD video quality does drop off in low light settings, but other than that, I really have no complaints about it.

I am really interested in getting one of this new "action cams". Seems like the GoPro is the most popular and most used out there but I am not convinced about the "boxy" format of the GoPro camera. My first choice is the "Replay XD" http://replayxd.com/cameras/replay-xd1080-camera/

and now this new camera from SONY looks very appealing.

Anyone using this new SONY cam?
