New to Houston - 1st Track Day

Well, where do I start? My wife and I moved from Toledo, OH to Sugar Land, TX in October of 2011. We both work as engineers in the Natural Gas Compression industry. I am a Controls Engineer (EE) and my wife is an Industrial and Operations Engineer (IOE).

I have been riding for about 5 years. The last 1 1/2 years have been crazy so my riding has been kept to a minimum (too much travel). However, in November I changed companies and travel is minimal now.

So, now is the time to check something off of my bucket list....track days . I spent the last few weeks prepping my bike (see signature - most mods new), and have purchased the following gear:
-Tecnik Xcelerator Track Suit
http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=8451
-Tecnik Xcelerator Gloves
http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=7703
-Sidi Vertigo Boots
http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=2083

I also already had this helmet:
-HJC Carbon AC-12
http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motor...et/hjc/carbon/

I have registered for the Ridesmart MSRH track day this Saturday (2/9/13). It will be my first track day, but I'm sure it won't be my last. Anyone going to or have any advice about the trackday?

-Eric-

New to Houston - 1st Track Day

I grew up in SL, still work there.. Welcome!

As for your first TD, be ready for a new addiction! I have lots to say, and it's just too much to type. All I can say is get some sleep, take some snacks and drinks, and open your mind to learning a ton! Hopefully you get a quality instructor, too! No clue who they have instructing in Level One to start the year off. Go to classroom sessions too, listen, and speak up when you have thoughts or questions! Don't be shy!!! Talk in class, and talk to your assigned instructor. They're there to help, and if you don't ask they can't help as much.

I forgot them on my last TD. Noticed when I was going to put gas on the bike.

Welcome

get a roll of painters tape.
It will not be hot, but remember to hydrate.
Take a hand towel and put it in your ice chest...drape it over your head and shoulders between sessions if you get hot...
get a set of under armor or heat out from cycle gear to wear under your leathers, it keeps you cooler and makes it easier to get your leathers on and off...concentrate on lines in the morning and body position in the afternoon, do not worry about going fast...there is a restroom right by the class rooms, go pee after every class, nothing worse than being on the bike and needing to pee. If you do not need to pee, you are not drinking enough water...

^^

MSRH has a covered paddock with electrical outlets. Bring an extension cord and outlet strip if you have stuff that needs it. Stuff to bring that you might not think about:

chair
cooler
snacks (Ridesmart will provide lunch and waters)

The paddock divided up into parking lot sized spaces. If they're all full, don't be afraid to ask someone if you can pit next to them. I only use a half or less space myself, so there's always room near me. I've run about 4-5 trackdays, and will be in the novice group with you. Look me up. I've got the old bike pictured in my avatar.

It is awesome an addicting. I remember the sound of the first group going out on the track really pumped me up.

The best advice is to take it easy, listen, and learn. For me, anyway, it was hard to control the adrenaline the first time. I was like "I'm on a real track!".
