Just made landfall from Norway

Hi everyone,

I just arrived from Norway, thrilled to find that "winter" in Texas is a good Norwegian spring! Since Texas and Norway apparently does not have a reciprocity program for drivers licenses, I'm having to take my written (passed) and practical/road test (scheduled for Feb 11th) all over again, as well as the MSF.

Once I pass the road test for my car license I'll attend an MSF (probably at Mancuso La Marque) ASAP so I can get into the swing of things. Currently in the market for a new-ish racer and a new Harley Davidson, as I really enjoy the former and I've never ridden the latter.

Started riding a couple years back in Norway on a '96 Suzuki GSF600N Bandit, which I absolutely loved for commuting and a little mountain road fun. Progressed to an '09 Yamaha FZ-6N S2 ABS, which I also loved, but which got pretty banged up when I got hit by a car trying to do an illegal u-turn. So, while the Fizzer was getting fixed I bought an '86 Suzuki GSXR 750 and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Looking forward to explore motorcycle riding in Houston and track days in particular; as the nearest track in Norway was 8 hours away I've yet to attend one.

I have a Dainese full leather racing suit and I'm curious as to just how uncomfortable it is going to be to wear in a Texas spring/summer, so if y'all have any recommendations for where to buy more appropriate gear (I'm a firm believer in ATGATT, though), I'd be thankful for any and all input.

Cheers!
Martin

Thanks!

Was looking for info on MSF courses, stumbled across Mancuso's website, and saw they had a link to this site with discounts for their courses.

Figured if I want info on what's going on in Houston, this place is more likely than anywhere else to have it. Always did enjoy being a part of a community, so joining was a no-brainer really.

Looking forward to getting back on two wheels!

Welcome to Houston, where we have year round riding!!

You might want to grab a mesh or perforated jacket for the summer.

@jakeg; mesh or perforated jacket, got'cha. My racing leathers are perforated, but I suspect it'll be way too humid for it. I'll find out one way or another, though. And thanks!

@Posterchild2; Thanks, and absolutely.

@rc51rider; Hah! I would like to hear you read it in a Norwegian accent, particularly since I don't have one

And thanks!

@ZX-Dominance Thanks!
@BYRDMAN "Down under"? I thought that was Australia; Aussie aussie aussie!
In any case, thanks! Where would I find info on the meet downtown? I certainly will try to make it.
@kdog22 Thanks! I come from the south-west coast of Norway, near the town Stavanger. Since we're on the coast we don't get too much snow, but it rains a whole of a lot, and winter is an icy mess as it'll freeze, thaw, rain, then freeze again. 2 wheels in Norway during winter time basically means enduro and hella-studded tires.

Greetings from one foreigner to another! If you find Houston winters comparable to Spring time in Norway, you may find our Summers comparable to Winter time in . I've been here 7yrs and can only now say that I can anticipate the heat, if not exactly enjoy it.

In which area of Houston are you staying?

Welcome to Texas! My grandparents were from Stavanger, I was able to visit a couple of times way, way back. Ditto on the summers - brace yourself! What part of Houston have you settled in?

Just so happens I replaced my beloved Olympia Motorsports Airglide jacket with a new identical one; old one is going to be up for sale, cheap, as soon as I get around to taking some pictures It looks like a 12,000 mile old version of this clean, shiny image:
