You can have kick start with electronic ignition. Some old bike lovers prefer points because if you have a problem they can often be fixed on the side of the road or at least parts are more available.
If electronic ignition breaks you are stuck until you can get to a dealer.
Kick start is the same idea. If your battery is dead you can usually kick start it but with no kick starter you are either pushing or stuck.

Normally I wouldn't even bother replying but....

Please show me a manufacture back in 1985 that makes helmets for children under 3 or even 2. show me one today in 2014 that makes one ( I am not going to google it ) My daughter was 5 when she got her 1st street helmet. That being said we bought the smallest cycle gear had to offer and it fit properly the way one should. She was a big 5yr old at the time as well. ( oh and BTW my dad did get pulled over one time with us on the bike, showed up in court and was asked the same question by the judge and his response "show me someone that does make it and it will gladly buy it!" Needless to say case was dismissed!! )

All seriousness aside though... This is what vehicle my dad had and could afford ( because he built that one himself ) back in those days. I give my dad the utmost respect being a single father raising not 1 but 2 children all by himself!!!! I wouldn't have had it any other way

When was the law enacted that made it illegal to have a child under the age of 5 on a motorcycle?

Anyways that might be the reason you can't find helmets for 3 year olds.

My dad used to carry me on a tractor and there are pictures of me at 1 on a horse but I wouldn't suggest doing that either.

Alleykat did all of the re-powder coating on this bike!!! Anyone needing some powder coating done, shoot him a PM. My family & I have known Alex for about 15 years now so this wasn't some random thumb in the yellow pages pick.

I'll text you the painters info. He's over off pinemont and Ella area. I think I remember my dad saying that he does the painting for Mancuso North Main location.

Also 98% of the parts for this rebuild on the bike were bought through Katy Custom Cycles. Dan the owner is a really great guy and you guys should deff go check him out if you have any H-D needs or service.

Yeah, back then, it's definitely understandable. , for a long time rear seats in cars didn't even have seat belts, and when I was a kid I know it wasn't always a priority for my parents to even have us all seated. We live and learn.

FWIW, now there are youth helmets available. Both my 3 and 4 year old have helmets (opted for DOT/Snell rated dirt helmets, but there are 3/4 face and full-face available as well) for riding in the side car, as mandated by Mama. My oldest can't wait until he turns 5 though (this coming Friday) to get a ride on the back of my bike.

It's really cool that you and your dad have this bond and get to do projects like this together.
