I haven't been on here in forever, I used to check it out every now. Glad to see another Shovelhead rider on here! Mines a 79 FLH-80 and I've got pics on it on here somewhere. If you have any questions ask and I might know the answer, I spent the better part of a year getting mine back on the road right. If you need any parts and you don't feel like waiting here's a list of shops in the area that still have Pan/Shovel parts. You can find the addresses and phone numbers with a quick internet search.

MC Creations
Southern Motorcycle
Osborns Cycle

those are in Houston, you can also try KT's cycle in baytown. All these shops have a ton of used and hard-to-find stuff. The biggest problem you'll run into is having something break or shake loose and then have a of a hard time replacing it because the dealership stopped stocking parts for your bike around 1990. Ask me how I know hahaha! Good luck on your rebuild and like I said, if you have a question or don't know how to get something back together, let me know. BTW, buy a factory service manual and a parts catalog. You can find them on Ebay used cheaper than ordering them new.

Great read, and good luck with the rest of the build, but are you really going to run fishtails-really, just kidding, Looking good. Just curious back around post 30 give or take You were talking about putting a kicker on in case of a dead battery, does'nt that particular bike have an alternator, and would'nt You need a generator to kick it w/a dead battery? Just trying to learn sumthin.

Hey dad if we converted the electronic ignition over to points and say the battery had no juice whatsoever and it had a kick start, would it be able to start up then? One more question but diff senario(sp): with a completly dead battery/ a kick start(or push starting it) / and an electronic ignition would the bike be able to fire up from the power generated by one kick alone or push start?

I can only attribute that because my dad is showing me the right way the 1st time which makes things go really smoothly with out having to guess at it until i get it right (which would be the case if i was doing this alone) well now that i have a manual i'd have to get stuck, then read, then go take it back apart, and redo it the proper way. <- yeah im pretty sure thats how it would go or prob like step 1(get somethings put back together) 2(get stuck) 3(read manual) 2(figure what i gotta take off) 1(start back over) repeating these steps several times 233234 <-Notice how many times id have to go back and re-read hahaha
