New DR-Z'er

Hey guys.

I'm robby, have a new-to-me 2005 DR-Z400SM. Heard about the site from a couple of other DRZ riders. I live down in Seabrook and I'm very new to riding but I'm getting up to speed. Currently using my bike as a commuter since the engine is pulled out of my truck.

Hey that's my old bike! The guy listing it was a little less than honest with his sale. Hope you made out ok.

It's fine, needs new tires but its pretty much ready to go. I've changed a few things though.

What's the story on the mileage? And do the speedo and trip computer show correct numbers?

24xxx. I'm just wondering because the trip comp says I've done 90+ miles since Tuesday. Which can't be correct by my calculation.

I never changed sprockets but he might have. That will affect mileage a bit. I'm glad the numbers are a bit more honest. It was also never rebuilt while I owned it, so whatever the ads say about that might not be true...

Interesting. Anyways I'm fairly mechanically inclined and have had some fun with a single before so I'm not too worried about it.

Some things I've changed since I got it:

Edge 2 Taillight
vetejynu

Case savers
ymahyved

And I put LED blinkers on, but I'm switching to the integrated blinker setup on the Edge 2 and the Zeta handguards with flashers. Kicked the rear blinkers off more than once.

And I was up at the almeda Cycle gear two weeks ago with another DRZ guy on here. We may roll by tomorrow if he gets his forks back together.

Cool man, I miss the bike tons. It was always super reliable. I had shell rotella T6 in it with new filter pretty often.

If you wanna offload the old handguards I may take them off your hands... I'm in the market for a DRZ again since I miss that one a ton. Hit me up and maybe we can work something out. I also have the jet kit if you need to go up/down a size and want to grab one cheap.

I may get that from you, although she sounds like she's running pretty rich.

One handguard has some scratches through the lettering, I had a bit of a moment in the driveway last week. Just cosmetic and I'm sure you could replace the plastic if you wanted.

Changing the sprockets on the dizzer doesnt affect the mileage. The speedo is on the front hub.....now if u were always doing wheelies that eill definately mess with it

It had scratches even when I bought it, no big deal. Hit me up with how much you'd want.

I have all the other jets in the kit, let me know where you wanna go. Check the jetting - I'm not sure what the guy was running. I wanna say I had a 150 but it was a while ago and I don't totally remember.

So you had it jetted? I would guess that this guy didn't change a thing on the bike and its still jetted how you left it. I assume you jetted after the exhaust and the 3x3?

I'll let you know a price on the handguards once they're off.

Yeah the exhaust was already on when I bought it. I put in a 150 main and the new needle / pilot (22.5) I think after I did the 3x3. Not sure what the new guy did but it's easy enough to check if you're curious. If you're in Seabrook you're a few hundred feet closer to sea level which may affect it a bit.

I'd suggest getting a valve check (or checking them on your own) before too long as I doubt the PO did that.
