leaving my girlfriends at 4:30 in the morning, going 70, down 105.

pulled over.

my dome light doesn't work..so i rolled my sindows down, and sunroof open. stuck my hands through sunroof when hel walked up. let him know, why. (no dome light)

got me for tags, speeding, "expired" drivers license. (i am in the system for a current licence, both C and M... BUT for some reason never in 2 years and multiple attempts renewing online never recieved it)

let me know I had a warrant for tags out in harris county.

gave me a warning, let me go.

paid warrant, sent letter to leo thanking him for letting me know of warrant, now taken care of, and not making my life miserable/lose job/ angry ex wife, dealing with me in jail had he taken me in... and my "new" license came in that matches thier system

I am usually totally calm. It's their job.

I did scream at one, calling him an incompetent mother , piece of , etc.

He clocked a car passing me, and wrote me the ticket WHILE THE OTHER CAR WAITED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, 200FT AHEAD, WAITING FOR THEIR TICKET.

The judge was in disbelief. He threw the ticket out, and the cop lost his job.

Frustrating that there's so much confusion about showing your CHL to LEO. Here's the skinny:

A couple of years ago, the penalties for failing to show your CHL when asked for ID were removed. HOWEVER, the requirement to show your CHL when asked for ID STILL EXISTS in the statute. A lot of LEO aren't aware of this recent change.

IF you're not carrying a firearm, you are NOT required to show your CHL alongside your driver's license when asked for ID by a LEO. HOWEVER, they WILL see that you have a CHL issued to you when they run your ID. And a LOT of LEO don't understand the statute that you're not required to give them your CHL if you're not carrying. So there's going to be a lot more questions & attitude coming your way if you fail to ALWAYS give a cop BOTH IDs, EVERY time you're asked for ID.

Why set yourself up for extra stress, for both you & the cop, on the side of the road? If you've been issued a CHL by Texas, stick it in your wallet next to your TX DL, and always carry it,. Every time you're asked for ID by a cop, always give them both DL & CHL. Regardless of whether you're carrying.

No. Under the concealed handgun law, you are only required to have your license with you whenever you are carrying a handgun.

YOU no longer have to show your CHL even if you're carrying (still not a bad idea)

non-chlers don't have to tell cop, so CHLer's don't either

happened about 2-3yrs ago. when they "defined" traveling and allowed non-chl people to carry in their cars.

This. Mine's always in my wallet, so when not carrying I simply tell the officer before I reach for my wallet "Officer, I have a CHL but I am not armed at this time - may I reach for my wallet now?" Why make them ask? As mentioned above, they want to go home to their families as much as anyone else; what's the harm in showing a little respect?

Before Texas had CHL a "traveler" could carry in their car. Here's what changed effective Sept. 1, 2007:
Quote:
The new law (Sept 1, 2007), the first bill Governor Rick Perry signed from the last session of the Legislature, now allows gun owners without a permit to carry a concealed gun both "to and from" their premises and their vehicles. Guns can be carried in cars with a few restrictions: They must be hidden from plain view, and the owner cannot be involved in criminal activity or a criminal street gang or otherwise prohibited by law from carrying a weapon.

This.

I always approach a situation like this with that in mind. If I still get a ticket, then so be it. I'd rather pay my due respect.

So technically you still have to show it, but there is no official penality for not showing the CHL. Of course, the officer can decide not to let you off with a warning.

Personally I always hand over CHL even if i'm not carrying.
