Helmet questions????

Alright guys,
Im about to buy another lid. Im still shopping around right now and i figured id ask ya'lls opinion on this one. I am looking to spend what it takes to get a nice quality lid! I have been looking at Arai, suomy and shoei helmets.

So far, i have figured out that suomy's are a little too wild with neon colors for my taste from what i have seen.

I love shoei helmets as that is what i have owned since i have been riding but just wanted to make sure i do my research before choosing my next lid. The shoei seems to breath rather well and fits me well.

I like some of the Arai designs but i have no expeience with using them and im really not sure how they compare to the others. They have some sweet designs though and they are in the same price range. Only negative thing i have heard is that they have had the same helmet design since the early 90's meaning their technology has not been changed meaning they are outdated helmets but keep producing new designs on the same helmet. Not sure if this is true or not, just what i have heard.

Alright, now.... I have been looking online and in some bike shops and so far my favorite helmet that i have found is the Shoei Picotte (black) helmet with the jokers on it. I think it looks sick!! I posted a pic so yall can see what it looks like if you dont already know. My bike is black so really any color will go with it but id like something with at least some black in it because i want it to match.

What do yall think? What brand would be the best to go with? Ill spend the cash to make sure i have the best on my head!!

Shoei makes a fine helmet IMO. Arai is overrated. Again my opinion.

Bright wild colors look nice and probably drivers will be able to see you better. Try all 3 I think cycle gear has a policy about helmets. That you can buy a helmet and return within 3 days for your full refund so try all 3 while your riding and see which one you like the best.

IMO the best helmet for you is the one that fits the best and makes you happy. I rock an arai RX7 corsair(among other lids in the closet) and i love it!!! I don't even know how to respond to the question about Arai's being 90's technology. . .they are definately up to par!!! Get whatever floats your boat and rock it like it's going out of style(b/c it is!!!). Just by reading your sig i see you have pretty good taste in parts, keep it up and you'll be fine

I maybe shouldn't say this but if they pass snell they are verygood. If they are DOT they are good. So as protecting you melon there a lot out there past that it is what feels the best. The helmet that I like is no longer imported into the US Beiffe GPR the only snell approved snaps on a helmet.

All that you were talking about are great and if you have been happy with shoei then go that way there is nothing better.

Usually if you pick that 1 color helmets they will always be cheaper. I will go that route next time I make a purchase. I dunno about paying 100 extra bucks for a paint scheme, but then I'm getting old.

I just bought an Arai RX-7 Pedrosa and love it.

I tried on Shoei's and they Arai just plain fit better.

Go with what fits you best....then pick the design you like from that brand and model line.

Thanks for all the help guys!! You have all given me some extremely good info! I think i am going to make a trip to a bike shop where i can try on and test fit all 3 of them and then pick the design i like the most out of the helmet line that fits me best!

Where can i go to try these on that will have all of these brands in stock at the shop?

I know Motorcycles Unlimited has alot of helmets but i dont remember seeing any arai helmets besides 1 that was special ordered for a customer sitting on a table in the back of the showroom. I know they carry both shoei and suomy though.

Taylor,
I've got a few Arais in stock, as well as Suomy and Shoei. If you come by I can determine what will fit your shape head best.

I rock a shoei, always will. but i can tell you that an rx7 will withstand being run over by an f150 4 or 5 times. a little test we did with an rx7 that had been chewed on by the dog, lol

Im also considering the new shoei X-11 but i dont see any paint schemes i like on the newer model. I dont even know what all changed on the X-11 as opposed to the RF1000.

I love alot of the RF-1000 schemes though!

Cycle Gear and Honda of Houston seem to have quite a few.....Honda of Houston has a ton of Arai and Shoei and HJC and Nolan etc.

i'm a die hard arai fan......but i recently purchased a suomy from patrick over at Motorcycles Unlimited.....and i must say i like suomy as much as arai (almost). i've owned shoei in the past as well, but not my cup of tea. great helmets, but they just don't feel comfortable on my head.

arai, suomy, shoei....they are all good helmets. just pick the one that fits your head well.

Had KBC VR-2. crashed last year and shattered it all across the back.. good ole concusion and some inner ear damage.. but alive... it fit great but snug. then bought a HJC. fit is good but not as comfortable.. i called KBC and asked them if they wanted the crashed helmet for their research and development department.. they said yes and sent UPS to pick it up.. sent me a shirt in the mail.. never heard anything eles from them.. just my two cents worth..

I have worn HJC, Shoei and Scorpion so far. Going to try out Suomy this season. They seem to be the best bang for your buck in the higher end helmets.
