No it doesn't it only helps the sensors detect your bike.

Only good use I see for it is a possible safety device to alert cars of your presence on their window.

Yeah, magnets will trip lights. It's an induction coil in the pavement and it senses when a large metal object, like a car, rolls over it.
Bikes being small and not having a great deal of steel don't always trigger the light. The magnet helps disturb the field around the induction coil.

The add was written to make it seem like as soon as you rolled up the light will change which isn't necessarily true. It does let the light know you're there but you may still have to wait until it gets around to letting you go.

In California I used to flash the brights like a strobe. Tripped the light due to the fire dept using the same method. Doesn't work in Texas....

the light by my house wont see me at all unless i roll in kinda fast and brake hard over the metal looking line sensor thingy on the road..
