Dry Media: Conté Crayon

In 1795, Nicolas Jacques Conté, responding to the shortage of graphite caused by the Napoleonic Wars, invented the crayon that is still known by his name. It consisted of a combination of powdered graphite and clay. In addition to using less clay, Conté's crayons could be manufactured in controlled grades of hardness. The sticks sold as conté crayon today are actually a variety of fabricated chalk.

WOW.. but the skeptic and un-trusting person in me says until I see him drawing one in person.

They really look like a photo run through a photochop filter.

Not a slight to you, but it really is a shame that advancements in technology have taught society to distrust what we see. I posted a pic a while back (not mine) and the first or second response was "that was PS'd".

Granted, a lot of people do, but there are still some very talented artists like this guy that will unfortunately lose out to the big-time AutoCAD geeks and PhotoShop gurus.

Just a small rant from an artist that loved to pick up pastels for an afternoon and see what came of it. Carry on...

I saw a guy at a show one time drawing airplanes with pencil. the detail was just beyond crazy and he did it all free hand. just kinda amazing how some people have such insane talent and I cant draw stick figures.
His detail and talent is of a different type, some people like Mitch at www.mcotie.com see things in their head that scare the bezeezus out of most, and he is able to draw these made up monsters.
This guy, must use photos to study and mimick, there is to much detail for the brain to keep I think, I dunno, I saw a guy draw the city of Rome from memory, all streets and building windows, balconies etc perfect
