Get a busa and smoke a joint before you ride. Then you'll be able to do 165 mph in the rain.

Welcome to the forum. For a first bike i recommend most people to start on a 500 or 650, you might get bored of the 250 to fast. Also buy used unless you can afford a new bike with all of the cash. You really dont want to spend more than 4,000 dollars on a first bike as you will drop it and it wont be as bad as dropping a 13+ thousand dollar bike. Also some might say go ahead and get a super sport but i would advise against that, the throttle on those are very sensitive and in a corner if you hit a bump you might jerk it down to fast (giggity) and could throw you off. Depending on how soon your going to be looking for a bike i might be selling my 06 GS500f pretty soon, its clean with only 10 thousand miles on it. This is my first bike that im currently learning on and im wanting bigger bike pretty soon. Welcome

kinda depends on you what your mentality behind a bike is. you sound like youre commuting more maybe a 250-300 isnt a bad idea at all.. you can still have a lot of fun on a 250 but PERSONALLY i would have gotten bored of a 250 way to fast. 900 was my first bike and I have absolutely no regrets and Im glad I didnt get anything below 600. 600's i think are great bikes to start of with if you want some power and fun. 1000 if you have life insurnace and put me as your primary beneficary

Hello. Welcome.
IMO. Any cheap reliable bike is good for starting off.

These two bikes are highly recomended:
Ninja 250
Ninja 500

That's so? Well, I've been having a hard time trying find a descent used bike around town. Especially for my height (I'm 6'2") Does that really matter in finding a good starter bike?

Welcome to MH. If you are buying a bike for commuting, get more of a sport touring bike, like a Honda VFR 800/200, Triumph ST or SV600..
