I was impressed for a second that he didn't have the front end come up at that acceleration till I realized he was traveling in kilometers.

Can't learn on it?! I think anybody could start with that if they never rode anything before. The fear of WOT is what holds new riders back(or eliminates them altogether). Being on a 250 conditioned him to that throttle response. When he got something different, it scared the begeezus out of him. It kinda reminded me of my first time riding a bike with a 60T rear sprocket. One minute everything is cool, next minute 12 o'clock.

My experience as a new rider on a liter bike is probably different as it is an older(albeit low mileage for its age) 998cc twin. I had a slight issue my first day getting used to the throttle for it vs the bikes used during MSF(had never been on a bike prior to that). Maybe I'm dense and waiting for my first big mistake, or maybe it's the twin, but I don't see what the big deal is. Yeah, she'll boot scoot pretty well...but I haven't ever been afraid of her.

Edit: I haven't been afraid of the bike. BUT I was terrified of the freeway for my first few weeks. But I was commuting to work(taking i45 and 1960) within 1 month.

Riding strait highways on a 1k may not be scary, but take it to the track or an empty back road and lean it until hard parts are about to hit while trying to accelerate hard out of a corner and you may start to have a different opinion.

I do *some* backwoods twisty riding. Not as much as I'd like. But I'm still learning that type of riding.

I don't lean it super hard...haven't taken corners that I really need to lean that hard. Haven't needed to lean off the bike at all yet. I ride FM 1484 through the woods here in Conroe area somewhat often at pretty good speeds in the corners. It's a fairly twisty road, but not super hard corners...and the road is good and wide with full shoulders on both sides.

No need to speed in a straight line, that's not fun enough to be worth the ticket. But the corners I take at a pretty good clip. Only times I've scared myself were when I had target fixation on something on the road and started to run wide.

Not trying to sound like a badass at all. Because I know I'm not. I'm a noob and I know it. I do worry sometimes about how unafraid I am of the bike. I don't ride stupid in traffic or in a dangerous manner. Just on backroads when there isn't any/much traffic.

Not saying your not a badass, just saying that while your TL may not have the top end power of the newer 1ks, it still has way more than enough to scare you and spin the back end up if you ride it how it should be ridden. I'm not too far from Conroe so I could show you some fun roads near there if you want or tow you around the track if you ever make it out there.
