I commute to and from both jobs on the complete other side of town every day on my 250r. Rain, snow, new years eve drunk drivers. Seen it all.
The only time I dont feel safe is when its REALLY windy. On a 250 a good gust of wind will throw you over a lane before you can even react.

the California Highway Patrol (CHP) regards lane sharing as a “good thing” because it reduces congestion.
http://www.chp.ca.gov/programs/lanesplitguide.html

By allowing the motorcyclist the ability to use the roadway that is already in place to reduce the footprint on the roadway is a win win situation for all commuters. It would encourage many other commuters to consider using a motorcycle or scooter as their commuter vehicle.
