Update from me: I stayed the night, it makes him feel a lot better and he slept GOOD. Six straight hours! He's going to be there through the week since he doesn't have surgery until Thursday, they put it off to give the clots a chance to thin out. Good news is though that the hosptal is going to start therapy with him to at least give him a head start since he hasn't gotten to TIRR yet. Yet. Not sure how long after surgery he will go to TIRR since he needs to not have anything extra with him except his rehabilitation.

Visits are much easier, for him too. :-) Room 664, 9am-9pm. Parking in Garage 4 off of Cambridge has worked well for me.

Update: How does it feel to have us talking about you Jim? :-) He can check his phone more easily, computer is still a lot to deal with so be patient as far as hearing from him. He slept through the night for the most part, except of course when the nurse or tech needed to do this or that. His surgery is still scheduled for Thursday, to give time for blood thinners to work on blod clots and then ween from it before the surgery. He's not sure how long before he goes to TIRR since his left hand will need to heal. So, he may yet stay at Memorial Hermann much longer than expected. Annoying, but necessary. BTW, It's good to know who is visiting Jim via forums, and also other ones I didn't know about until Jim told me. I'm glad that so many people are sharing with Jim in seeing him through this!

Update: Jim is scheduled for surgery for his left hand (to place pins) on Thursday. I'm not so sure what condition he'll be in since they will have had him under anesthesia. He will then be moved to TIRR....drum roll...Friday. He is super pumped about this! He will get to start making more progress!

Just visited him yesterday, he's definitely getting better from the first day this thread was open. Like Myla said, he's pretty pumped about getting out of the bed soon. He has so many plans for his bike when he gets out. Definitely Wolverine

BTW, since his surgery is at 11am (I have found out since last posting), I think he will be pretty out of it for the night. But, I'll visit after school and check.

I know it's super super early to speculate his rehab, but....I helped a friend whom was paralyzed in a car accident back in 2007 patent a standing apparatus to help regain muscle strength due to paralysis. Feel free to check it out when time allows.

I wish Jim the best of luck in surgery and pray for a full recovery.

that looks great! I'm sure he would appreciate something like that, he thinks all of the time and I'm sure he is worried about losing muscle tone.

Update: Jim had his surgery and was doing pretty good. Someone brought him a shave set and Scott "The Dude" (Houston Gixxers) shaved him and did a pretty good job though I wanted them to wait until we reached this:

King Leonidas by donvito62

Oh well. It's what Jim wanted.

He is scheduled to go to TIRR tomorrow, Melanie (Houston Gixxers...I only say the group name so you realize why you might not not know them...yet!) is taking off from work to help make sure he AND his stuff get there safely. He said that visitation is the same over there, but I will update with room number and what not when possible.

He is all about the future and what he will do, I can't wait to see it!

He will like TIRR much more than Hermann. The specialized attention will be a welcomed site. Hope he's ready to work!

If anybody's ready to work, it's Jim. The guy's just permanently lost use of his body from the chest down, but he's chomping at the bit to overcome every obstacle. It's honestly kind of intoxicating. I thought I had it bad...

He sees it all as a challenge. I can't wait.

Since there's a designated bed, I suppose we can assume our boy is sharing a room now?

Yes, but I haven't been there yet. Will go over the weekend! Seems like I can't stay over anymore, but he's a lot more able now to at least reach for stuff anyway.

My only worry is that it isn't everything he was hoping for...he's really been counting on just getting in there to be everything. He's had his eye on TIRR since day 1. Okay, maybe it was day 2 but it was since he was in Bryan, TX knowing he needed to get proper care elsewhere. He wanted TIRR, and the way to get there was through Memorial Hermann. He worked on TIRR surveillance equipment as part of his job, so he knows the place in and out and knows it to be good. :-)
